Environmental Fatwa

Jun 21st, 2007, in News, by

The environmentalist fatwa from the Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI).

The Central Kalimantan branch of the Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) last year issued a decree, or fatwa, against the burning down of forests or any area of land, thereby making unauthorised deforestation a haram, sinful matter for Muslims, or for those which accept the MUI’s authority at any rate. On 19th June this year local MUI head Abdul Wahid Qosimy said his learned body had begun stepping up efforts to teach Muslims in Indonesian Borneo about the ruling against burning forests.

Wer’e now trying to spread understanding of the fatwa against forest burning through mosques, mushollas, and in meetings with Muslims.

He said most Muslims in Central Kalimantan still had no idea about the fatwa, that by burning forests they were committing sin, and he hoped that other religious and educational bodies would help in reaching out to more people.

He said the fatwa was based on the principle that the burning of forests had a harmful effect on society, the economy, and people’s health. republika

It is truly a sin for Muslims to burn forests willy nilly and thereby create problems for the whole Muslim community.

Burning churches and houses of infidels is also harmful for the environment. 🙂

@toma: ahahaha you’re absolutely right mister!!

^_^ ^_^ One hundred points for Toma!
Anyway, how those guys in MUI think that they have the right to state haram/halal. Playing GOD!

  4. Arema says:

    Toma: spot on! 🙂

Sylvester: I agree with you, they’re playing God by issuing fatwa and able to decide which deed is committing a sin, which one is haram / halal, as if what written in “the holy book” is not enough, well maybe it is. But let’s leave the judgement to God Himself.

But on the positive side, they issued something that would hopefully deter forest burning, which is a good thing. Putting what I’ve written on the first paragraph aside, practically this is a positive step toward preventing forest burning, because what looks effective to control people now is not government regulations, but what is said by ulamas.

MUI should stop issuing fatwas, but on the other hand keep on urging Indonesian Muslims to do the right things right, just like this one.

  5. Janma says:

Have Mui ever issued a fatwa forbidding terrorism?

  6. Dimp says:

Based on this latest fatwa, MUI should never ever open their mouth again. As the amount of hot air and ‘bulls**t’ that they released would harm the environment.

cause it can “create problems for the whole Muslim community”.

So others communities can just die? What I don’t like in Islam is Muslims only help Muslims. Zakat for example or distribution of meat for Kurban. Islam is such a discriminative religion. 🙁

If you really want to become a nice person start to forget from what religion of the person you help. Zakat is just a fulfillment of an obligation. It not only does not come from the heart but it is also a discriminative and racist tradition. Doesn’t make you someone good at all. When westerners help someone (After the tsunami for example) they don’t care about the religious background of the people in need. When Muslims (Arabs for example) give a little money it’s always to help their Muslims “brothers”.

That’s the big difference between real nice people and fake good people. There still true Indonesian, mostly in villages, who help each other without thinking about the f****g religion. But 80% are already contaminated by the ORBA and islamist culture.

Smiling Indonesia is dead. Now you only get smile when you buy something.

Oh yeah, all the money the Muslim countries gave to the U.S. during Katrina was to help the Muslims in New Orleans, right?

So is trying to indoctrinate every non Muslim into your way of belief.
