About

What is Indonesia Matters (IM) about?

The site’s primary theme is cultural change. Most often this means we look at issues of what might be called Islamization, but sometimes stories fall into the category of globalization, westernization, or other.

What are some articles that tell me about the view of Indonesia Matters?

These are some of the better posts from the archives:

Who is behind IM?

IM is very negative about Islam and Muslims.

We report news, we don’t make up the stories, see next two points.

Some Muslims behave very poorly for apparently religious reasons. Some Christians and Hindus behave poorly too, but there are a lot more Muslims here than them.

What are the sources for your stories?

Mainly Indonesian language news agencies and newspapers. See the footnotes at the end of each story.

IM suggests that Indonesia is falling apart, that radical Muslims are taking over, the sky is falling down, etc.

Indonesia is not falling apart, radical Muslims are not taking over, the sky is not falling down. Good news is often no news, this site focuses on, for example, stories of extremist Muslims and bigoted people - however not all Indonesians are like that. This site makes no attempt to tell the whole story of Indonesia, just several parts of it.

Does IM receive funding from anywhere?

No.

What is the purpose of IM?

To be good quality, popular, and profitable.

Why is the site in English?

Originally the intended audience was foreigners with an interest in Indonesia.

Why do you insist on high standards of writing/typing by commenters?

If the comments look bad the site looks bad.

Some commenters have an image next to their name, how do I get one of those?

Here - http://site.gravatar.com/.

Can I write for IM?

Good writing in English is welcomed. Use the contact form below.

Will I get paid for writing?

No.
