Tourist arrivals in Indonesia continue to decline overall.
From January to July 2006 the number of tourists arriving at thirteen specified ports of entry was 2.26 million people, a decline of 8% year on year. 2.45 million visitors made the trek to Indonesia in the same period in 2005.
Month to month saw a slight increase with 361,900 visitors arriving in July 2006 up from 361,100 in June 2006. However Rusman Heriawan of the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) said said that this increase was disappointingly small given that July is the peak season for travel to Indonesia.
The statistics for Bali, the battered jewel in the Indonesian tourist crown, evidenced a decline year on year with visitor numbers for July 2006 of 128,620 representing a 22% fall on the same month last year.
Month to month for Bali saw the 115,502 figure for June 2006 increasing by 11% in July.
