Indonesians & Arabs

December 11th, 2006, in News, by Patung

Indonesians are better than Arabs, says Jusuf Kalla.

Vice president Jusuf Kalla, who is rarely short of words on any subject, says Indonesians have a lot to be proud about when comparing themselves to Arabs, should they want to do this. For example, in Indonesia there were many religions, cultures, skin shades, etc, but everyone was united. The Arabs had the same religion, same culture, same skin colour, but they were always at each other’s throats, fighting.

Speaking, with a big smile on his face, it seems, at the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists (CAJ) on the 9th in Jakarta Kalla said there was much disunity in the Arab world, with twenty countries that had the same language, culture, skin colour, and religion, while Indonesia managed to provide a single home for all kind of skin colours, - black, brown, white, - and 300 languages, and lots of different cultures and traditions. He claimed that someone at the Iraqi embassy had told him this.

His words are reported to have drawn much laughter from the audience. [1]

Of course his words have drawn much laughter from the audience because he was making a joke. He was trying to forget about what had happened in Aceh, Poso, and Papua
We still remember his controversy remarks to lure wealthy Middle Eastern men to temporally marry/contract marriage the Sundanese women in other words to legalise prostitution.

Always funny. What? Kalla’s humor? No, stupid general assertions.
    And

He was trying to forget about what had happened in Aceh, Poso, and Papua.

Of this I cannot laugh: who can?

He claimed that someone at the Iraqi embassy had told him this.

Whilst I wholehearedly agree with what he said, he certainly doesn’t have the nerve to stop the cancerous Arabisation of our beloved country, and I don’t think he has the intelligence to have realised this himself. The man is a clown, in any other democratic country in the world he would have been laughed out of office. His sole aim in the world of politics is to enrich himself and his family, just like all the other corrupt criminals in our so called government. For an example just look here:Indonesia’s Kalla under fire over business link

Kalla ‘the clown’, when he speaks his voice sound like Jerry Lewis. When he stands up he look likes one of seven dwarfs?

For Indonesia to go down the path to adopting Arabic style Islam and culture is a terrible mistake, and, unfortunately, Indonesia is already a good distance down that path.

Just wondering if you have this person as second in charge, do you believe that Indonesia will ever go forward in this world?

The sadistic clowns who (mis)manage people’s lives cannot even deal with a mudflow.
Why hasn’t SBY said one word of consolation to the Porong people?
Are the Bakrie & Kalla families threatening him?
I’m weak enough to believe & hope Pak Presiden will do something for Sidoarjo & FOR THE PAPUANS!

    — while Syamsir Siregar goes on holiday, while Amrozy Cs are punished for their crime
(not necessarily criminally killed), while people make love with no telephone-camera, with no judge, no frustrated lawmaker peeping, no X commission aping some kind of deep reflection, no cleric marrying virtual m2f or f2m puppets, while democracy extends from men to… women… Aduh aduh saya mengeluh!

The Arab world? Wow! Wahhabiyya against Shafi’iyya? Times have not changed.
51% good against 49% bad : the world survives. So many people are impossibly poor ; there’s no authentic sharing. How can that be? How can we stand it?

Violence is the weakest form of action. It just calls revenge for a hellish vicious circle!

    Waton Urip?

I think Indonesia (not its government nor its ulama) can build a really good democratic & mystical Islam. The country of origin has not the slightest importance! Pig meat is good when cleanly kept. Shari’ah is a law for a lawless nation — remember the wars of the Prophet in the 8th century: I think Indonesia has got the Pancasila & is not a “religious” state.

Ooops, I’m sorry, I just saw a picture of SBY with Sidoarjo people on ID Nugroho’s picture site… But it doesn’t really help the 12000 displaced. My best wishes to the people of Siring and others !

    One good thing is :
Kalla is a moderate Islamic. Not an extremist.
Maybe he is a ‘clown’, but that’s better than Suharto regime, maybe?
We cannot talk anything in Suharto regime.
We prefer a clown than a professional killer.

About his statement, I see that he himself is facing difficulties, having headaches, have problems in his work that very difficult to be solved. He was helpless, so he said that to cheer up himself and the folks.

    Hi,

What Soeharto has done is in the past, we cannot change the past but we can always try to make the present better for a brighter future.

Cukurungan, democracy sih democracy, but if it is in Indo do you really believe it was 100% pure? I don’t think so. I confess that I personally didn’t vote, because I couldn’t care less. But sometimes I do wonder what he is on, some of the stuff he’s said is just as if he’s stoned or just coming down from a very bad trip. He could say the funniest thing sometimes. But sadly not intelligent. Even writing this put a smile on my face. :)

Are you dreaming there’s any 100% pure democracy in this word. Come on guy, you may better go to psychologist and check your mentallity why you hate so much to someone else. Wise guy said don’t hate people but hate their wrong conduct.

Cukurungan, read my statement properly :)
did i mention the word hate? NO…where did you get that from?
And i already answer my own question about 100% democracy. I said: I dont think so! I know for sure there’s no 100% anywhere in particular in Indo. Put your glasses back on or you probably need a pair.

Indonesia must have economy reforms to encourage investment from Arab countries. Look at Singapore, what was former president Habibie called it “red dotted country” why Singapore can pull the investments from Arab countries to invest in Singapore. Latest Arab investments to Singapore is almost SGD 10 billion dollar.

Arab countries ’shy away’ from Indonesia because they are not confidence with the Indonesia government and the private sectors - with full of corrupt people.

I bet Yusuf Kalla is doing the best for our country, but it’s not easy to manage extremists and stubbornists, they have power through cunning politics parties, it’s all complicated games he has to play.

At least a little improvement by jailing more corruptors, better pray for him and SBY as I did rather than make joke of him.
