That is true, and in the (ancient/former/original) jav. society women have a high and important and frequently essential position (also in the family), before external influences shatter this structure.
Anyhow: children and women abuse, wife beating, raping etc. are not external nowadays and in the primary form of this culture.
For a little bit more information: the Javanese culture is patriarchal also the sundanese, madurese and most of the dayak tribes etc.
I don’t know any matriarchal group in Indonesia, the only matrilineal society in Nusantara is the Minangkabau.

the problem is that many Asian men do not (able) develope their selves in the last 5000 years (except in the strategy of corruption off course ) and they stand still at the niveau of our neolithic ancestors. And some of the former savages have created some new things, which helped the 5000 years ago more civilized Asians to evolve them selves: electricity, bulb, computer, automobile, airplane (Ooops, javanese could already flying as the white men still climbing around on the trees! Remember Gatotkaca!!) etc, etc.

Try not to find your Javanese girls at the disco or Blok-M My experience with the Javanese girls has been quite different–they seem to want to be serious without so much fooling around. It almost sounds like you are describing Sundanese women. They are wild, sexy and into fantasies–but they also love to spend money. I have not yet met any Javanese girls that fit your description but there is always a first time.

If you want to enjoy nightlife and wild times I suggest you try the Sundanese women–the best are from Bandung, Subang, Bogor and Kuningan–not necessarily in that order. The women from Sukabumi are beautiful but tend to go sour too quick.

Hi there to all..
Reading this blog was very interesting indeed. To any men there who are interested in dating Indo women, fyi…we, well..at least me…would like to be treated of course like a lady. The only country in the world where men get arrested for domestic violence on a consistent basis is the USA–not because they beat their wives more but because the law is enforced. In Indonesia, especially central java, the jails would be so full they couldn’t hold anymore. One of my clients is an advocacy group for women in SE Asia, funded by the world bank, they assist women (poor women) with education and healthcare. According to their rep in Surabaya the level of violence against women is very high in Indonesia but men rarely get taken in unless they have mortally wounded the woman. So if that is the standard then yes Javanese don’t mame/kill their women they only beat them so the women should be grateful.
