In discussing the proposed law against indecency, a law which, unrevised, would see the display of bare navels, thighs, and shoulders become illegal, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) confessed that he had once sent home a singer at the presidential palace because her belly button was visible.
Maybe I’m old fashioned but I don’t like to see belly buttons, it bothers me. There was once a singer whose belly button was visible, she was going to perform at the palace, but I sent her home and she didn’t have the chance to sing.
Man for all seasons Yudhoyono then went on to say that there wasn’t any cause for debate regarding the proposed legislation.
There are those who say that this is a right, a freedom, that it is appropriate, why should it be restricted? While on the other side there are those who say that one should be fully clothed. Yeah we have to find the logical and proper way.
He made no real mention of what this logical and proper way might be, however, but kept waffling cheerfully.
This is our nation, our country, our society, formulate things in the right way, there’s no need to go to war over differing interpretations. We all know what is pornographic and what is not.

Well some males can look at a belly button with no problems at all - as they also have one. I would defy any man viewing only the b/button to tell if it was male or female. If a male b/button caused problems then I feel for that male. Please do not judge others that is the work of God. R. Patterson
Actually I can tell the difference between male and female belly buttons but as I don’t find either erotic, I won’t bother explaining the differences.
Around the navel, the hips. Lovely. Stupid & lovely. So important for girlies to show they’re beautiful. Wanna be appreciated and loved. If anyone wants to know about “porno”, they should go & see real hard things, then they’ll all fall in love with lovely innocent navels…
What a hypocrite! I am sure most people who are properly educated will see this law and laugh out loud. What’s wrong with the belly button. If a man has a problem looking at someone’s belly button then I guess he is the one who’s got a problem up there! Everything come down with how you perceived things. Do you perceive it in a negative or positive ways? Beauty is art, it is in the eye of the beholder! Surely, I agree that decent Indonesian women should know when and where to wear such outfits showing their belly buttons, however to say STOP to all occasion is really redicules… OMG, I cant believe in this century, people actually think like that, especially people who have high power to govern Indonesia. What a shame!
SBY didn’t say that he will pass the law. Read carefully what Patung posted:
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) confessed that he had once sent home a singer at the presidential palace because her belly button was visible.
C’mon, use common sense. Will you show your belly button when you are invited for the first time to meet your boyfriend’s parents? Will you wear off shoulder blouse when you have meeting with the government officers?
The singer, and her promoter, were ignorant. SBY has the right for being uncomfortable and it was his party (or whatever), he can send anybody that makes him feel uncomfortable to go home. If he was attending somebody elses occation and saw belly buttons all over the place, I’m sure he will leave. And I’m sure he doesn’t feel uncomfortable watching Papuans dance with their kotekas only. Get real!
Yes, Parvita, good opinion.
