This post has been created due to the female circumcision thread having gone substantially off-topic. Hopefully, within the spirit of the site, commenters can make some reference to the situation in Indonesia and within Indonesian Muslim organisations such as NU, etc, vis-a-vis their understanding of the hadith tradition.

The people that do not admit the negative influence of the hadith on islam and its fabrications than i do not know what you use to think. It is proven now that over 99% hadiths are fakes and even amongst the 1 % there are countless fakes. It is imperative that we revert back to solely the Quran in light for its guidance. There is not one hadith out there that doesn’t contradict the Quran or even itself in many places. How can you deem then credible? There are hearsay from over 250 years after prophets death. not only so the sources they use have confessions in their sirats and history accounts which say that the blame is on the people they heard this all from. Now how can you trust the sources? Bring to me one purely genuine and authentic hadith, ” Sahih” by the meaning.

[016:044] With clear signs and Books (We sent the Messengers). And We have also sent down to you (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam]) the Dhikr [reminder and the advice (i.e. the Qur’ân)], that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought.
I know that it is very difficult in these times with all those fitnas, liars, bloodshed in the islamic world to truly comprehend / trust islam in its whole.
The greatest scholars have admitted that a lot of hadith are not true. But a lot of hadith are true. They haven’t say all the hadiths are true. They didn’t lie to us and they are working very hard to clean the mess.
The best thing to do is explain the quran with the quran. Every subject in the quran. If you can’t explain a subject in the quran with the quran you go to hadith and try to find the best answer there. Always ask for guidance and protection from Allah before before you go on that quest. If can’t find the answer in the hadith go to a scholar.
By the way, always go to a scholar and ask him about his opinion. What you do afterwards with that opinion is your responsability. You are free. Allah will forgive everything except kufr and shirk. wa allahu a’lem. Allah is the all-knowing.
