The Broadcasting Commission is examining the question of “porno” on cable television channels.

The Komisi Penyiaran Indonesia (KPI) is currently in the middle of deliberations over the creation of rules for cable television channels, such as Indovision, Kabelvision, Telkomvision, IM2Indosat, and Astro. The questions being discussed include the appropriate time slots for “adult” material to be broadcast, delayed broadcasts and censorship, and local content rules.

Amelia Hezkasari Day of the KPI says:

Those things which will be determined are mainly connected with the distribution of programs which are thought likely to create conflict in society.
(Hal-hal yang akan diatur terutama terkait dengan distribusi acara-acara yang dianggap berpotensi memunculkan masalah dalam masyarakat.)

Punishments for cable tv companies which break the rules on adult content are also being discussed and they are divided into two groups, administrative punishment, such as written warnings, stopping of service, and withdrawal of broadcasting license, and criminal punishments, where the matter will be handed over to the police.

Some suggestions which have already been raised concern the possibility of special subscription methods, such as the use of passwords and smartcards, for access to channels which show “vulgar” programs, in order that children do not have access to the material.

Amelia says that she herself has no problem with porno content on cable television, provided access is tightly restricted, but that the matter will be opened up to the public for their input.
