Video Interviews – Who?

Apr 21st, 2009, in Asides, by

Doing video interviews with interesting people in Indonesia.

I’m going to do some extended video interviews with interesting/moderately well-known people, I have a few names in mind (a journalist, and a writer….) but would like suggestions for other people to approach.

Need to be realistic, I’d like to interview all sorts of people but some will be impossible to get hold of or won’t give their permission to be interviewed by a small website….

Also they need to have at least fairly good English. Suggestions please.

It does indeed! Father of wisdom, mystery and mythical warrior-king-turned-god, conveniently latinized for no particular purpose on an Indonesia-focused website 🙂

  2. Lairedion says:

    AAB,

    LOL. Awaiting your video interview.

    Sincerely yours,
    Sherlock 🙂

  3. David says:

No Tom getting called “Koh” doesn’t bother me, I think it was fullmoonflower who started it, I sometimes get called “Koh” to my face even though I don’t look Chinese at all, I’ve never thought it was remotely derogatory though.

Well, Sherlock Lairedion, time to sniff around and follow the trail. There were too many smoking guns lying around. Here are a few usual suspects for starter:

    1) Pakmantri

Note that he spells his name as ‘Pakmantri’ without any gap. An Indonesian should spell it as Pak Mantri (with spacing). And also note he shied away from looking straight into his avatar. Have you asked him why?

    2) FMF

According to Patung, she called him ‘Koh’ first, followed by Sheikh Cuk, then by myself. It was too much of a coincident that three ‘Javanese’ should have known better. If I have recalled correctly, Purba Negoro also made a comment about Patung being Indon-Chinese.

    3) Toma

Most probably a bule pretending to be a concerned Sino-Javanese. ‘Koh’ has never been derogatory whichever context it is used. It is impossible for an Indon to say otherwise. A very dubious character.

    5) Patung

He/she is a smoking cannon. I am pretty sure his/her name is Wong Ching Chong, and he is a Hokkien.

  5. Lairedion says:

    AAB,

Is everything OK with you? I’m a little worried. Did you miss your flight to Kalimantan?

Cannot see why the persons you mentioned must be involved. Perhaps you should try “Bahasa” to keep it brief and understandable.

Did you already set up a meeting with Wong Ching Chong for that video interview?

    Sincerely yours,
    Sherlock

  6. tomaculum says:

    AAB,
you can be sure, I’am not abule pretending to be a ‘Javo-Chinese’ (not Sino-Javanese 🙂 ). I’m not PN :)) . An I’m not dubious, rather weirdos (like you mentioned 🙂 )
And Lairedion’s question is right: seriously, are you OK?

  7. Pakmantri says:

Hey, hey …. what … what did I do? Leave me out of this please …. 😀

    @Pakde Aluang,

Pakde kados pundi tho penjenengan menika? Sampun kesupen basa jawi nipun njih?
( Old uncle Aluang what happen to you? Have you forgotten your Javanese?)

Pak Mantri, with space, is the same as Mr. Mantri.
But according to Javanese naming convention as written in “Kitab Primbon Betaljemur Adamakna”, Pakmantri as a name has a meaning of bapak’e Mantri (the father of Mantri).
If you don’t believe me ask kangmas Dumadi Satrio, the “bule” who has fully embraced Kejawen. 😀

And as for your question why I am not looking straight to the camera, here is my answer to you,

I was afraid that there will be many ladies falling in love with me. Although that will be good for me and my reputation I will get a very big scolding from my “bule” wife. 😀

    Sicerely yours,
    Dr. Watson.

    @ Lairedion,

    Ke apa ngana Sherlock? 😀

Please go back to the interview thingy ….

  8. Lairedion says:

    Pakmantri,

Don’t know what happened to him. A rather innocent remark on raising doubts and all of a sudden he went kinda bezerk and jumped into a paranoia mode on some kind of sinister plot between Wong Ching Chong and Sherlock Holmes.

But you’re right. This thread is about video interviews. Let’s see if Patung manages to set up a date with some of the suggested names here. Wonder how he’s progressing.

  9. David says:

I’m going to have to learn a lot of new tricks, but I’ll keep you updated.

Perhaps they were part of the conspiracy to frame Antasari!

  11. ET says:

I suggest Ki Gendeng Pamungkas for a video interview. As a clairvoyant he could give us valuable information about the what- and whereabouts of some participants in this forum and give Sherlock a rest.

  12. indonesiabraveheart says:

    How bout Wimar Witoelar ??

  13. David says:

Yes had thought of him, he does lots of interviews, must be a pro at it.

  14. Lairedion says:

O brother AAB, where are thou?

  15. kriya.sinudarsana says:

Already interviewing someone yet? What will be the topic (of the interview) Mr. Patung? When can we all see the interview?

I have a suggestion, why not Prof. Dr. Franz Magnis-Suseno, SJ? He’s been in Indonesia for many many years, have very good experience with all sorts of social complexity in Indonesia i guess…
