Dec 27th, 2005, in World, by PatungIndian Hindus often seem to prostrate themselves before Islam and find common cause with Muslims in their dislike of the West, one such of these being the Hindu columnist Sandhya Jain.
In an incoherent piece in the ‘Daily Pioneer’ she writes:
… when oil-rich East Timor was systematically converted to Christianity and instigated to secede from Indonesia (the religious demography changed from 12.2% Christians in 1900 to 91.4% in 1990), the Timoreans did not move to Bethlehem. Thereafter, White Australian companies grabbed the oil, and this can only aggravate the Muslim grievance with the modern world.
Systematically converted by who? By East Timorese Catholics of course. Perhaps it would have been better if they were systematically converted to Islam by the Javanese. Instigated to independence by who? By the East Timorese of course. Perhaps they should have just accepted their status as an outpost of the Javanese empire and had their distinctive culture slowly erased.
The Muslims certainly do seem to have a “grievance with the modern world” and many among them would no doubt like to obliterate it and return to the slavery of the golden age of medieval Islam. A fossil like Islam will never be comfortable in the modern world and will only survive it by radically changing.
Finally, Sandhya Jain, who writes like a fifties Stalinist, says:
Our salvation (India’s) lies in recognising our Hindu identity and strenuously protecting it from evangelisation and infiltration. ……..only a Hindu India can take its rightful place in the comity of nations.
Sandhya Jain does not know the history of her country. She does not know how the Arab imperialists attempted, by extreme violence, to subjugate and destroy it. She is also not aware that any friendliness now shown by the Muslim world to India is a tactical measure, India may be a useful ally in the struggle against the stronger West now, but once the need for the alliance is over, Islam will once again return to its efforts of obliterating the Hindu culture and nation from the face of the earth.

I do not agree with your comments.
God is immortal and Christianity/Jesus is the only faith.
1. Life existed even before Jesus was born. Jesus was a good person but mistaken to be a messenger of god.
2. There exists no god in this universe. If we consider that there is a god, than the question really comes who made god? And if we come to know who created god, than the question again arises who is the creator of that creator.
3. So in effect there is no god. The soul is center of existence of all living being . The souls which have attained relief from lifecycle of birth and death is what is termed as God in jainism. Hence there is a basic difference in Jain philosophy vs. other philosophies of the world on how we define the term GOD.
4. Religions are merely a way of living good life nothing beyond that. There is no point in fighting over whose philosophy is correct vs whose is incorrect.
5. Killing of plants vs animals is a huge difference. Agreed absolute non violence is not at all possible but relative non violence is possible. Harming a plant is not non violence but degree of violence is relatively lower than harming an animal. If we continue on path of violence, there will be soon a day where man would eat man, sort of jungle law. Meat eating should be refrained from whenever possible. Look at the teeth arrangment of human and the nails, they are not designed to kill and eat animals. Human teeths are flat unlike lion or any other meat eating animal. You can’t kill a lion or a lamb just with your nails, so human is not designed for meat eating for the most part. But human mind supercedes all of these and has designed tools (like knives to slay animals) to meet those features which are not provided by god.
6. There exists the theory of karma where your good and bad deeds are compared and your next rebirth will be depending on what level of your good or bad karmas are. One has an opportunity of draining bad karmas and attaining good ones. Life of mahavir and other such great souls have attained a state of zero karma, where they don’t need to be reborn.
7. Gandhi will never be called god. Gandhi’s inspiration on non violence was from jainism. Concept of Non violence drove british out of india, without killing a single person or fighting a battle india was able to drive britishers out of their land.In other words principles of jainism worked against violent britishers (so called brutal Christian believers).
8. If Christian was only true religion or faith, the whole world should be Christian. Why would Jesus be impartial in spreading knowledge about god. If he was only true divine messenger from god, his power/teahings should be universal and unanimously accepted by all human beings which is not the case. There should not have been Jews, Muslims, jains, Hindus etc. Assuming your theory that god is immortal than god (or Jesus) should make sure that Christianity be universally excepted unanimously. Then there would be no fight over religion which is not the case, same applies to mohammed and other so called messengers. Hence none of these religions truly define god. Every one has their own theory and none of them can be proven.

I strongly believe in the Sandhya Jains reponse to the comments posted. Her views seem more rational than those of the responders. Truly speaking the religions of the west (Christian, Islamic) should first understand the concept of GOD and how they define it. If the say that their god is omni-potent, omni-present and omni-scient and creator of the universe, they must first explain why did he create such an unequal world where some are happy and some are sad, some are rich some are poor etc.. and why did he create so many different religions except one… thus, the concept of God in the western religions is completely flawed and irrational.
Instead of fighting over different philosopies of GOD, the whole world must adopt TRUTH and NON-VIOLENCE as their religion, this would be acceptable to all. These two concepts are eternal and can be given the status of GOD itself. There is universal law that governs the universe and all its entities. That law is ‘As you shall sow so shall you reap”. This law is a TRUTH, and our actions should be guided by this TRUTH.

Acer is arrogant and intolerant just like all Christiam missionaries . Surely Jains know that plants are living things. They also know that when they eat of the fruit the plant still continues to live. That is the reason the Jains do not eat potato and garlic beacuse to eat a potato we need to uproot the plant – which results in killing the plant.
When will Christians learn to be more tolerant and accepting of faiths that divulge even slightly from their beliefs.
Again who decided Christ was God? The problem is the Christians just do not understand the true teachings of Christ. -

The Old testament is full with ‘jesus coming on earth as human’.

In all religion/groups…there are true and fake…….in christians too.
there are true christians and some are fake, truly. i accept.I need not to judge anyone……your soul destiny ……only you & your god can decide.
Salvation is purely PERSONNEL thing between YOU and GOD.

Amhinsa and vegitarianism: Don’t you know Plants are living entity? No teacher taught you that in 5th class? Stop eating vegitables now! I mean it doesn’t mean we should kill all animals but I mean to say ‘TOTAL non-violance is Impossible! God decides in advance who will die and how on what time.
Mahavir – Okay answer one question? Who need to achieve Moksha/Salvation? I know you will answer – Human! Now recall – Mahaveer Acheived Moksha, he ran to Jungle in search of Moksha! It means he was Man! That’s why you made him God? and Idol? God is Immortal. The next year You will make ‘Gandhiji’ a another God? Don’t insult God! Jesus never ran to achieve Moksha! And he never prayed for ‘forgiveness for sin’ he came to Give Moksha! He said – I m God! Either He is lier or God.
He said – I came from Heaven for you to take all your inequity so you get salvation, to show God’s love! Because he wants all should receive Moksha! As pre-prophecied already! There are 332 phrophecies about Jesus all true! Jesus said Without me there was No creation of Universe!

4) Jesus said: “I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, & THE LIFE. No one (male/female – American, Muslim, Jew, Catholic, Hindu, Jains, Sikhs, Buddhist, Asian, Presbyterian, European, Baptist, Brazilian, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc. ) comes (arrives) to the Father (with GOD in Heaven) EXCEPT BY (through) ME (no other name).
This wonderful loving GOD gives you the choice.

(Remember Vegetables are living entity!) With suicide practice that is too A biggest Sin!) etc. are not requirements for becoming a Christian -however they are great afterwards!!!} Good Things are considered after receiving Salvation/Moksha.
Christians are the people ‘just forgiven’ and receives Salvation.
