Women Police Officers’ Uniforms

Bright ideas are coming thick and fast from the East Java police chief, this time headscarves for policewomen.
After suggesting that police officers improve their image and strengthen their faith by performing prayers while on the job Brigadier General Anton Bachrul Alam only a few days later has asked that Muslim police women don the jilbab/hijab, or headscarf, while on duty.
This is to invite them to walk the straight path. By wearing the jilbab it means concealing their womanliness [aurat].
It’s all happening in the BrigGen’s mind right now.

I’m sure that police women will wear the jilbab. It would be good for them.
Reactions soon came from Muhammadiyah, Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI), and the Prosperous Justice Party (Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS)). Spokesman of all three organisations praised the police chief’s good intentions, but warned against the use of any force, saying that the decision for a woman to conceal her head hair must come from the heart. detik detik

Yes, but others seem to be just ignoring him now, which is a positive sign…incidentally, while we’re on the topic of policewomen and jilbabs, has anyone joined the dating/social networking site here, although I’m sure we’re all upstanding married men here so that is unlikely but still

Sheldon, no never met him, is he still going with that er, business of his? The thing I am running here is from a company called “World Friends” which was started by a Canadian and is based in Hong Kong I think. It’s simply a social network, you join or you don’t….unfortunately there aren’t that many Indonesians on it, the lovely lady in Jakarta above is one of them however. The network is huge in Japan, and elsewhere in Asia, I’ve noticed that a lot of the Indonesian women that are on it seem to have joined in order to further their Japanese language skills….the network actually started as a foreign language learning thing….hence there are a lot of tefl types on it….but don’t let that put you off.

It’s the other way around: they were __forced__ — though the proponents steadfastly downplay it by using the word “encouraged” instead — to wear hijab.

Yes, I’ve seen other reports where the police chief says lots of women wear jilbabs these days in Jatim so the police should go along with that trend so as to be close to the people, ….but lots of women in Jatim don’t wear jilbabs, the police don’t want to be close to them as well? Maybe those women are the criminal types….

I can wake her up in the middle of the night, take her out on the motorbike in pouring rain and she will still be giggling and laughing…how can you NOT love someone like that?

Sheldon Archer’s website’s comments may not be to every bules’ taste, but he is a fine gentleman, responsible and very down-to-earth sort of bloke, unlike most deceitful whiteys here in IM. I have referred some friends to him, and from what I know, he takes it upon himself to scrutinise every potential groom as a caring father for his girls. He is not an unscrupulous money-blind operator. If you have mental problem, you’re out; if you have health problem, no deal; if you are economically unstable, you’re a goner.
