Coalition Governments, Golden Triangle…

Mar 30th, 2009, in News, by

The alignment of forces for the 2009 elections, the ‘Golden’ coalitions of political parties.

Major parties seem to be splitting into two loose camps coming up to the April 9th parliamentary elections, they being:

Golden Triangle

“Golden Triangle”, coined by Suryadharma Ali of PPP, the three parties of the New Order era:

  • Golkar
  • PDI Perjuangan/Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P)
  • Partai Persatuan Pembangunan/United Development Party (PPP)

And probably later including Partai Gerindra of Prabowo Subianto and Partai Hanura of General Wiranto.

Golden Bridge

“Golden Bridge”, a Sukarno era term, used by Anas Urbaningrum of PD:

  • Partai Demokrat
  • Partai Keadilan Sejahtera/Prosperous Justice Party (PKS)
  • Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa, PKB
  • Partai Amanat Nasional, PAN
  • Partai Bulan Bintang, PBB

And probably including Partai Keadilan dan Persatuan (PKP Indonesia) of Meutia Hatta.

The core of the “Golden Bridge” is an alignment between Demokrat and PKS.

The coalitions are basic agreements to form government for the 2009-2014 period, while it remains for the former group to agree on a presidential candidate.
