I wonder who is going to be held accountable for this disaster? let’s face it it was preventable.

“After Aceh tsunami, flood of Lapindo, Jogya earthquake, and now Situ Gintung floods…anger of earth ?? there’s nothing to do except doing re-location of settlement to people who survived as soon as possible and giving of life spirit to them to face this…

I was in Jakarta at the time of it, and I drove past it later that day, I didn’t get to see too much, but it certainly was bad, it was all over the news, and they kept showing footage of people finding bodies, but thankfully a lot of people survived.

I have a friend who knew people who lived there, and again, thankfully they weren’t affected too badly, one did lose his house though, but a house can be replaced.

From what I was told, Mike, you are right, there would be a lot of other dams that could burst at any time, hopefully this will wake people up and get them checked out, it’s sad when it takes a tragedy to open peoples eyes, but that seems to be the way of people.

Anybody any news from the Haji Muhi area (Jalan Haji Muhi Raya, 4 or 5 kms North of Situ Gintung)? — I used to live there. I really want to know how bad things must have been there too.

    Makasih.

Apparently, the residents had been complaining for over a year about the cracks in the dam. Obviously, nothing was done because they are poor. A pothole in Pondok Indah or menteng would have been fixed in double quick time.
Adding insult to injury was Yusuf Kalla telling an agitated victim not to look for someone to blame . This was when the victim appeared at a Golkar rally yesterday, demanding that immediate relief be granted.
