The World Peace Forum in Jakarta finds out the causes of terrorism and violence in the world.

An important meeting of the World Peace Forum (WPF) has been going on in Jakarta, having been opened by president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on June 24th and involving about 200 representatives of religious and cultural organisations from around the world.

Some of the participants include jakartapost

  • Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew, from the Cheng Ho Multi Culture Trust, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  • Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, of the Global Assembly for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Iran
  • Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, of the Pontifical Council for inter-religious Dialogue, Vatican
  • Ven. Master Chin Kung of Amitabha Buddhist Society, Australia
  • Amina Rasul-Bernardo, of the Philippine Council for Islam and Democracy

and

  • Anwar Ibrahim, politician, Malaysia
  • Xanana Gusmao, president of East Timor

Some well-known campaigners for world peace who would have loved to come but didn’t, and so prepared recorded speeches for the conference, include worldpeaceforum

  • Helen Clark, Prime Minister of New Zealand
  • Kevin Rudd, Prime Minister of Australia
  • Gordon Brown, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
  • Jan Peter Balkenende, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
  • Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation
  • Mikhail Gorbachev, former President of the Soviet Union

It seems president George Bush of the US did not make a similar effort to advance world peace, or was not invited to do so.

The conference is organised by Muhammadiyah, the Center for Dialogue and Cooperation among Civilizations (CDCC), and the Cheng Ho Multi Culture Trust.

Din Syamsuddin

Leader of Muhammadiyah, Din Syamsuddin, who also happens to be the head of CDCC, said on the 25th that he was very happy with the conclusion of the first session of the WPF talk-fest, that a new common understanding of the causes of world conflict had arisen despite the varied backgrounds of the participants.

Din’s colleague, Rizal Sukma, head of the organising committee, went into more detail saying that the delegates had unanimously agreed that the violence and terrorism that occurred in the world today could not be blamed on a certain religion or culture, but instead arose from injustice and economic imbalances. kompas

SBY got the nerve to talk on a World Peace Forum shortly after the Indo government banned Ahmadiyah, a peaceful group who have existed for a long time in Indonesia, from practicing. What a fraud.

    Colossal Wank.

Its a country of never ending amusement..”Gee why doesn’t the world take us seriously”

muslims will say that they abhor pagan worship, although they perform it openly in mecca, and say that they are peaceful, despite what is continually mentioned in weekly sermons on friday.
The hypocrites will say that the best are those who perform the most number of prayers, fast the most number of days, bring up the most number of pious children, will kill and be killed for their beliefs.
Don’t follow the paths of hypocrites, but follow the path of God, which states that the best amongst men, are the righteous (no religion mentioned).

Muslim scholars will never tolerate diverse views on their religion as it will reveal their falsehood. Hence debate and open discussion is discouraged.

Take the path to peace and end religious beeifs, nationalist views and any other dogma (capitalist/communist).

Are you serious? Then again I wouldn’t be too surprised. The Indonesian population still consists of barbarians. And it’s not just a minority…

I’d love to read those speeches. Will there be any who dare to speak their mind and present the naked facts or is it just another diplomatic PR wank?

No fraud my friend, it is just common business in this real world, SBY just emulate what the leader in the western worlds have been doing so far, as we speak, most western leadership is talking that Nuclear is not good while they keep for them self the nuclear bomb that enough to destroy the world.

I beg you to stop in weeping about Ahmadiyah fate because we have been thoroughly investigated and we concluded that soft teaching of Ahmadi sect would undermine the hard face the full version of our teaching and we will never tolerable it and for sure we will destroy them at whatever cost.

Who are the ‘we’ you’re talking about? You and your MUI and FPI mates? There are many Muslims who don’t have a problem with teh presence of Ahamdiyah in Indonesia so don’t pretend to speak on behalf of them.

    @ Cuk:
The majority of Moslem population don’t mind Ahmadijah at all. It is the MUI and the Wahabbis who went bananas when people hold other view about how Islam is interpreted or understood by others. When Ahmadiyah is done, they will need to settle score with the Shiah, when are we going to grow up and accept the truth that Allah SWT alone will be the ultimate judge of our deeds?

    Brother,

Why you still put anything on God while He has been giving us anything to become the ruler and the judge on this planet and I do not talk on behalf of Indonesia Muslim but I do deserve to speak on behalf my own group who has strong commitment to end Ahmadiyah presence in our sacred land. Of course we prefer to resolve the ahmadiyah issue through discussion but “Mr Bush Said” all option is still on table, therefore if ahmadiyah leadership do not stop in preaching of their corrupt teaching, we will take whatever action required to wipe-out them from our society.

Brother, may Allah enlighten your heart in understanding my religion, Islam. I am sorry to say that your accusations are all bias and misconceptions against Islam. I also apologize if I am not able to deliver my opinion in the way that you would like to understand for I am just 17 yrs of age and is not really fluent in English however I will do my best in conveying the message of Islam to those who are ignorant of it. First, it is true that Islam abhors pagan worship for it is what the Prophet Muhammad abolished primarily; however, you have to understand that the prayers practiced at the Masjidil Haraam at Mecca while facing the Ka’buh (I suppose this is what you mean) does not mean that since they are prostrating at the front of the ka’buh, then they are worshipping the ka’buh. The ka’buh is just a place of indication on where does a Muslim will face during his prayers, and inside the heart of a Muslim, he does not intend to worship the Ka’buh, for as I mentioned, it serves as a pedestrian for prayers. Second, Islam supports peace, but come to think of it, should Muslims act the way they act today if there is no reason? Are we foolish that we would just put bombs on our bodies and let it explode at a massive people just like in Iraq? Would you say that we are doing this because we just like it? These things that are branded as Terrorism has reason. These things happen for there is a reason, they do this because they are opp

  19. Jens Arni says:

    Logic and Stoicism

    whatever the circumstance

Humans, like all other creatures have an overpowering instinct to survive, as it is apparent to all animals in the animal kingdom. This instinct is in many way amplified and complicated in human interaction and since humans are the only sentient being on earth, and can perceive the idea of right and wrong, a great responsibility falls on our shoulders.
Ever since man began living in social groups and forming political establishments, including the religious institutions, humans have strived to perfect the institutions created to benefit the ways of survival for the community or the individual.
Complication in instinct or the matter of humans being sentient beings, complicates the institutions and the strive to perfection because individuals may harm the system and seek the benefits of their own survival. Nietzche called it the Will for Power and it is equivalent to Darwins Survival of the Fittest theory. In stoicism and logic, it is irrelevant and illogic and should be repressed.
I spoke of complication in human interaction, and I have broadened it to encompass the whole spectrum of human behavior and strongly emphasizing on politics and economics. I call the Nietzche’s and Darwin’s phenomenon Desire because most the human factor of comfort and trust is based on desire and owning things to play an active role in their lives, and in the material age completely taking hold. While the comfort grows and the unending urge for owning and desiring things which the mass media says you need, no attention is put on the environment or the useless slaughter of an uncounted number of humans.
If the mass media does not acquire the attention and slavery needed to run the machine which is in interest unending, the religious institutions will acquire the rest for illogical benefits of high ranking officials in the hierarchal implements of the various institutions.
Unending amounts of currency and manpower is used for illogical and irrelevant material things and agendas. Capitalism and capitalization are the driving forces of the world economic system, both highly inefficient and illogical to both the environment and the survival of humans and animals alike. As sentient beings, humans should be more intelligent and more capable of understanding and rationalizing the process of solving these problems.
Another example of illogical proceedings is the melting of the North arctic sea, investors and oil companies see this as an opportunity to capitalize on the natural resources under the ice. Instead of preventing further damage to the worlds ecosystem they persist in profiting by destructive means.
I fear for the human race and the dire consequences that will follow in this unchecked and rampant struggle of the privileged few in their unending quest for more power will ultimately end in catastrophic repercussions.

Why should humans make guns, why should humans kill, why should humans resent another human being for having different skin color? All of these questions are my questions to all, and my answer to all of them is that everyone has the wrong perception and opinion. You can think of yourself as unique or as a special individuals and say that everyone has an opinion and that is what really matters. Though the individual’s opinions in truth matters and should always matter, you are all wrong. The individual’s opinion is irrelevant and illogical, and further deepens the complications in reaching a higher sentient plan of living. In the fictional universe of Star Trek, an alien race called Vulcans uses the phrase “live long and prosper” for greeting and farewells. If this phrase was one of the collective thinking of the entire human race, and which it in many ways is, the means of living long and being prosperous should be reached collectively would be the most logical assumption. Thus creating a more logical and sustainable way of life. To better ones self could also be the collective thinking of all humans. And it only takes thought and action to do so and to achieve this logical and prosperous way of life, is to cancel out the needs and desire to obtain and own things because these things are obtained directly and indirectly through the use of the political institutions, war and economics and the repercussions and downsides to it follow. They are all irrelevant to your survival or way of life. So the questions asked before are nullified by nullifying the desires, including religious differences and perception.
Earlier I spoke of responsibility that humans have, that responsibility is the repercussions that follows the present way of human existence. The present human pattern of existence is harmful to humans themselves and to the environment and the animals that live there. As sentient beings, humans should live in equilibrium with its surroundings and find new ways to stimulate the way of life and respect it. Every opponent to these teachings or writings would ask the question of what to do the institutions that cannot work or do not fit into this way of living. And my answer would be change, and people with money would say it would be harmful but the there are institution that are essential for this way of life. Science in all its variations such as Health, Green energy, conservation, space exploration, improvements in all different sectors of a humble way of life, education in all its forms, understanding. I do not suggest throwing away all technology but using what is truly needed in improving humanity. Genetic engineering is not implemented since it will be harmful to tamper with the natural evolution of humans.
This may sound Utopist and unrealistic, but the only the thing that’s unrealistic is the perception of something being unrealistic. Men were burnt at the stake for saying that the earth was not the center of the universe and people laughed of the idea of flying and splitting the atom. It all comes down to the will, the will to do it and the logical assumption.
All these writings in its simplest form may sound cold and emotionless, but the teaching of logic and stoicism do not necessarily need to suppress the emotions of humans until there is nothing left but a logic sentient being, something similar to a computer, which does not account for the critical humane thinking of humans. The fundamental emotions contributed by all humans is essential to further humane logic and stoicism, phenomenon such as Honor, forgiveness, respect and trust. All of these are interlocked in humans and need to be eventful, and still be kept under logic and stoic control, to further prevent irrational decisions.

Religion has a deeper and more profound affect on humans since it answers the question of human mortality and ensures the follower immortality after death. The purpose of religion is somewhat romantic since it is illogic to ascertain the benefits of an afterlife, in the here and now. Most if not all religions are based on spiritual understanding and the purpose of life, a more logic approach is the understanding of the human conscience, and furthermore most religions are somewhat anti materialistic and have some basis in controlling emotions and repression of desires. These teachings if carefully and logically picked out would serve to benefit a more logical and stoic way of life.
Though the human race has no shortage of religious texts and teachings, the problems of these teachings is that they are contradicting and in religious fanaticism become highly irrational and illogic. The idea or perception of a deity or god persona, seems simple enough, though logical and illogical at the same time, since one can accept the idea of the big bang theory but not explain how it came to be, by adding the god persona it may seems logical but then where did god come from? Deities of the worlds religions have given their followers laws to live by, since there are many laws and most of them contradict each other, it would be a logical assumption that these texts have been falsified or made to benefit the hierarchal system of the religious institutions. The idea of spending time on worthless endeavors searching for god or gods is highly irrational, and history has shown that religion is yet another tool used for political agendas and has succeeded in completing illogical tasks that benefit the lucky few.

With power comes great responsibility, since humans are the only sentient beings on earth, great responsibility falls on our shoulders. Not only the welfare of ourselves but of every living organism on the planet, history shown us illogical extinction of animals and destruction of wild life and environments, caused by human irrational thinking. Awareness of ones surroundings and compatibility with every organism in equilibrium is the logical course of action.
Human ethnic and geo political barriers are illogical and flawed, since they offer no benefit to the welfare of anything. An organism at war with itself is eventually bound to destroy itself and seize to exist; picture the earth is a multi cellular life form, war and other causes for destruction become illogic and irrational to further any sustainable life.
Humans should as an intelligent sentient being look beyond the boundaries of bigotry and indifference, to seek a new frontier such as space colonization and exploration. Since space is infinite and it allows infinite possibilities, and it should give humanity a larger agenda. Something as big as space exploration is an unbelievable challenge for humans and should provide sufficient means to further the human race beyond the future millennia, and keep humans preoccupied with evolving better means of traveling.
The current problem of climate change is somewhat easy to accomplish compared to the difficult tasks humans have faced in the past, like the rebuilding after both world wars and many other wars. But the reluctance of the world’s economies by simply shifting from fossil fuels to alternative energy is overwhelming. The logical step would be to start immediately since it poses an imminent threat but the worlds leading nation take steps as to reduce carbon emissions over a long time periods instead of halting them within in a few years and they do this so that they don’t loose too much money, easing the transaction. Instead the nation waver dim-witted slogans such as fight against climate change? We are the cause! Illogic and irrational approach by our elected rulers.
We need to turn away from the irrationalities that feed our imperfect needs, which can be suppressed by stoic philosophy and seek alternate ways to better our world. Not the illogic reoccurrences of the illogical dominance of hungry economies bound to implode from failing resources.
Notes: Emotions and feelings should always be an integral part of human interaction and being while concepts such logic and stoicism should be used in political and conservative measures of life.
