How to Catch Mr Bule.
The book discusses important questions such as:
- Are foreign men more caring and loving than Indonesian men?
- Is it true foreign men know best how to keep a woman happy?
- Or are bules just looking for a bit of fun, or as blogger Indcoup once put it in the four “F”‘s – “find, feel, f…, forget”?
- Do foreign men like Asian women because they think of them as demure, while western women are too forthright and independent?
- What special problems face local women dating a foreign man?
The weird habits of bule men are pointed out as a warning to Indonesian women, such as
- they like dogs
- they sleep with the lights off
- they like to cook for themselves
These small matters could later blow up into big problems and ruin the relationship, it is said. However the main advice seems to be to avoid stereotypes and keep your eyes open.

Plus, I don’t see that in any way that is a ‘perversion’ or that indonesian women leave their western partners because they are how shall we say…. “well endowed.”

5. If we apply this logic to the Western world we will find that almost all countries are in the Judeo-Christian tradition and therefore the generalization holds up well don’t you think?

I already got the other book that i am talking about, and almost completely read all.
The title is “Istri-Istri Orang seberang-kisah hidup pasangan kawin campur” by Fanny J. Poyk. The price is Rp 39000Well, reading that really inspiring.. hehehe… cause this book telling bad things that happened to expat-indonesian marriage. Some even horrible. I think its good for those expat wife wanna be to read, as another point of view, life is not that beautiful.

I am not indian, i am not arabic, and i am tall. Genes, sports and good nutritious food, sure. But my parents are indonesian, not arabic or indians… or chinese !!! hahaha !! (this still made me laugh).
Don’t have to be one of them (indian, arabic, or chinese???) to be taller than average girls in Indonesia.Hope this will OPEN your mind.. some how.

No!!! I don’t! PLease explain! All I know is that I know a couple of people, outsiders who had the misfortune to marry into old-established Cornish farming families who had the misfortune to be unaware of what that would entail – the family and the community are even now key for those kind of people, and an “up-country” spouse is always going to take second place… both marriages failed…
Arranged marriage was very much norm for the European aristocracy until only a generation ago…
And what’s all the stuff about religion? “Cultures” of all kinds are founded on far more than the scriptural tenets of a particular faith – and that goes for their attitude to “love and marriage” as much as anything… There is a vast, vast difference between the “Catholic culture” of Spain and that of Ireland for example… that’s why I struggle a little with your talk of “our culture”…
In any case, what about Indonesian Christians? How about their attitude to marriage? Are they different from the other “Indonesian women”? A little clarity please….

.”……..that’s why I struggle a little with your talk of “our culture”…Timdog it is Friday morning here in beautiful Palm Beach County, Florida and I was hoping (apparently against all odds) that you could reason things out for yourself? You know when I lived in Jakarta I kept a crucifix at the entrance way inside my apartment. I did it to remind myself who I was and where I came from and what I believe. I am not alone to do this as many types of Christians and from many different backgrounds do this all over the world. We do it for the same reason to remind ourselves that God so loved the world that He allowed His only Son to be sacrificed for us so that we could be free from the stain of sin and that we could enjoy an eternal life in heaven. All Christians (includes Catholics) believe this as it is a common denominator in our faith whether we be Protestant or Catholic and no matter where in the world we practice our faith. Through scripture we know what is expected of us in holy matrimony (I have already several times made mention of this in earlier comments). The Church played an enormous role in the development of Europe (and subsequently the Americas) and one only has to open a few history books to realize the extent of that influence on almost everything. Some examples would include government, laws, education, Feast Days, literature, Weddings etc. This is what is meant by Judeo-Christian culture. It does not mean we are all absolutely the same in all details (see Paul’s writings) and there are not enormous differences from country to country but rather that we share the core values of Christian influence. It does not matter how we came to be married as much as how we acted in our marriage. If we placed local culture above the word of God then who bears the blame if marriages fail? A Catholic from Ireland and a Catholic from Spain know exactly what to expect in a marriage based on their common faith and scripture and even if they did not share a common language. I am proof of this as I am a descendant of the survivors of the Spanish Armada that lived through a fierce storm at sea and later shipwrecked on the Western coast of Ireland. Despite language and cultural differences that were able to assimilate with the local people and inter-marry because of their common faith (and ok maybe common hatred on the British…ha ha ha) Today, with our darker features and black hair we are called “the black Irish”.

Interestingly enough there are “Black Cornish” too – some of them are very “black” indeed… the traditional folklore explains that these were, rather than the descendents of shipwrecked Spanish, the product of the handful of documented attacks on Cornish coastal villages in the period of the Spanish Armada when Spanish sailors did a fair about of “raping and pillaging” (and burnt my hometown to the ground – not that I hold that against them!)
I’ve always though it highly dubious that these few attacks and the rapes that took place could have founded an entire “race” still visible today; it seems more likely that there was many centuries of trade across the Bay of Biscay, and more than a few Spanish-Kernowek marriages…
There is also the little known issue of the long period of raids on the Cornish coast by Arab pirates from North Africa who kidnapped villagers as slaves and soldiers for the Moroccan courts, and doubtless did a fair bit of raping and pillaging… there are a number of accounts of freed Cornishmen returning to their homeland after years in Morocco – sometimes with Arab wives and children… Seems like that period of history may lie behind the “Black Cornish”… I wouldn’t be surprised if the same applies to Ireland…
And with that little detour into historical trivia I find that all desire to argue with you about the institution of marriage and “Western” and “Indonesian” attitudes towards it has mysteriously vanished! 😉

Precisely the same phenomena exists along the west coast of Ireland where you typically see many almost Spanish looking people. They too have the same myths that they’re all descended from shipwrecked Armada crew but I simply think it relates more to the Celtic origins of the people who are supposed to have come from the Middle East.

Always been a big fan of Steve Earle myself, and Galway Girl is my favourite of all his more recent stuff (though it’s not quite up there with some of the stuff on Copperhead Row)…Actually, though I was born and raised in Cornwall, my family on both sides are from Irish roots, and my name is about as Irish as you get… In the case of me, my brother, my mother and my grandmother – our hair is black and our eyes are blue… (though we don’t have the dark skin of the “black Cornish”)…
