President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s boring speeches put people to sleep.
While giving a speech to provincial leaders on 9th April president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono noticed that a number of attendees had fallen asleep. He complained:
Wake up! Get out if you want to sleep.
Boring
He then launched into a mini-lecture about the evils of falling asleep while he was talking about important national issues, and reminded those that had just woken up that they had been chosen by the people to lead, and sleeping during speeches wasn’t in the job description. batampos
You should be ashamed to the people.
A video of SBY’s anger:
Angry.
I have gotta be honest here that I have not read or heard the speech, but maybe it was not worth being awake for? And the question then is who should take the blame for a boring speech that sends people to la la land?
Maybe this person was so tired from working hard in supporting and lobbying for his constituents (remembering that a meeting of this nature would be a prime opportunity for this) that a little shut eye could not be avoided”¦then again maybe they had a big night out the night before in some karaoke joint until 4 or 5 in the morning!
Maybe being obviously asleep is better than having a captain with their eyes wide open but figuratively asleep at the wheel!
Might be worth checking out the DPR building every now and then and see how full or empty (depending on whether you are “the glass is half full” or “the glass is half empty” type)”¦This individual might have been asleep at a workshop and perhaps on the job but there are quite a few politicians not on the job at all!
Not a uniquely Indonesian issue as it was not so long ago that the former Australian Foreign Minister and now opposition back bencher, Alexander Downer, decided a long lunch and a game of golf were better options than hanging around in the chamber for boring to and fro on the political front!
It is pretty sad that this is headline news in a country where there are probably a whole range of more worthy subject matter for headlines in Jakarta’s English Language Newspaper!
Would be cooler if Mr. President had thrown a piece of chalk an/or resorted to a ‘water in a bucket’ scenario.
I fully support the President for ticking off those who were asleep when he spoke on national issues. In reality, majority of the wakils are not interested in representing the people but only interested in filling their pockets and making a name for themselves.
and who should tick off the president when he fails to live up to expectations?

LOL!!!
@ Rob
True, but I still think this is a good story though. Government officers falling asleep during meetings and conferences have been a habit since the New Order era. It’s about time someone order them to wake up!, or just get out.
Is it really SDY who puts them to sleep? I admit just looking at him makes me feel sleepy, but whenever I watched that Parliament channel on Indo TV, back when Megawati was president, I’d see old men either sleeping, giggling like little boys or texting!
Nah, Rob
It’s not that boring.
It’s boring for ppl who dont understand, sorry, but in the middle of those ppl called “leader” there are some idiots,
really
I’m indonesian and i know the brain capacity of some those sleeping “leaders”.
A president would not waste his time speaking in front of public if it’s not important.
those idiots who slept have not even finished their middle school maybe,
I tell you the reality, some of them didn’t finish even middle school.
They are just son of bitch politician or maybe nephew of military officers with no brain, etc.
