Whether women soldiers and policewomen can wear Muslim headscarves.
Military and police authorities are currently debating whether to allow female members of the armed forces and police force to wear the jilbab, or Muslim headscarf.

General Sisno Adiwinoto of the police says current regulations only allow policewomen serving in Aceh province to wear headscarves, while in the rest of the country there is no specific prohibition on it, just that headscarves are not included in the standard uniform.
Sisno said that if a person wanted to join the police he/she had to obey the rules, such as uniform policy. antara
It’s OK in the UK.
Irgan Chairul Mahfiz, secretary general of the Partai Persatuan Pembangunan (PPP), an Islamic political party, said other parts of the civil service allowed wearing of jilbabs and it was about time the police and military fell into step with the times.
Times have changed.
Plus, policewomen wearing headscarves would look:
smarter, prettier, and more fashionable
In India and Malaysia Sikhs in the security forces were allowed to wear turbans, he said. antara
One of the few people to express opposition to the plan is Permadi of the Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan (PDI-P), who is an animist by religion. He said the current uniform of women soldiers covered enough of their body to be sufficient and respectable. okezone
This article in Indonesian – Polwan Jilbab.
I prefer policewomen to wear black burqa, and covering from head to toe. These gun-trotting polisi muslimah will then be stationed in popular tourist destination like Blai and Jakarta. It will keep the Bules busy looking over their shoulders, and scare the wit out of them. haha.
This is Indonesia political style and I think is useless debate. I understand the sensitivity of this issue and many political parties will use as their agenda setting to woo the Islamic voters. While I recognize this issue is easily solve by allowing female who want to use hijab and just change the regulation, what so difficult about it?. The point is, we have to respect their faith as Singapore allowing Sikhs not to use helmet
There are many important points to improve the police & military department such as eliminating CORRUPTION in this institution. As always, they fail to prioritize the urgency of many huge issues in front of their eyes. Or it just their intention to do so.
1. “General Sisno Adiwinoto of the police says current regulations only allow policewomen serving in Aceh province to wear headscarves”
For the army is this regulation valid:
Skep Panglima TNI No 346/X/2004 tertanggal 5 Oktober 2004 (female soldiers have to wear jilbab.
2. “Plus, policewomen wearing headscarves would look:smarter, prettier, and more fashionable” (Irgan Chairul Mahfiz)
….. and more obedient …..??? 🙂
… and less corruptible …?? 🙂
… just “look” smarter but not to be smarter….??? 🙂
… isn’t it also more fashionable wearing bikini or hot pants …??? 🙂
My god, what’s going on in Indonesia???
Besides Jilbab, policewomen should also wear SARUNG and KEBAYA. Why not, they belong to Indonesia old culture and long established tradition, while Jilbab is imported.
Policewomen should dress like men on duty. It becomes less attractive, more versatility, easier manouver and ran faster. Less prone to molestation or rape. Still there are buts…
The issue is only about the dress code. You should separate it from others, unless you do have problem with women wearing hijab. I sensed such a paranoia, cynicism and hatred prevail here.
Even in USA army, Muslim women are allowed to wear hijab as long as they don’t feel hassled.
The decision is up to each individual. If she is more comfortable with this stuff, it is her right to wear hijab. And vice versa. (Theoretically), Indonesia is free country, isn’t it? 😀
the correct words are : the policewomen in indonesia do not allow to take bribe … that’s all & I don’t care whether they wear jilbab or not, it is not my concerns
yeah, who cares? wear it don’t wear it…. it’s fine…. as long as it’s the institutional drab brown in color (so fashionable that!) there should be no problem, just don’t make me wear one!
yeah, who cares? wear it don’t wear it”¦. it’s fine”¦.
you wear it – fine
don’t wear it – also fine
you break traffic rules – fine
you don’t break traffic rules – also fine
and mind you – the fine isn’t cheap – what’s the going rate now? 500,000 rupiah?
Jilbab is only a physical attribute, what’s the point if they wear Jilbab but still accept bribe money.
Agree with Falcon, they should wear Sarung and Kebaya instead.
There is still some space if they wear Kebaya Encim
Aluang
I prefer policewomen to wear black burqa, and covering from head to toe.
I prefer see-through burqas.
Now which is what you wear it – fine, don’t wear it – also fine, you break traffic rules – fine, you don’t break traffic rules – also fine
Fine as to okay or fine as to denda.
I thought it is as bare it all fine and fine (meaning okay but got fine) ha.ha.ha.ha..
Or perhaps bare half of their uniforms.
Like iamisaid says have the jilbabers ready at hand. But I don’t think much into hating rather than commone sense to suit the job. In the US I don’t seemed able to find any thing like that except people who speaks Fasi from Afghanistan, Ezbekistan or Whateverstan they play their stunt that got me stunned.
A police woman wearing jilbab who makes an arrest is called a jailbabe.
I think brown g strong bikini would be better. Bules would be happy handing over the bribe. Especially if they got to fondle boobs.
If you are running a commercial business remember sex sells.
Like stuffing dollar bills into the bra in go go bars? Lets not be a pervert like those religious people who sits a 13 years old on their thigh to rub on or a 13 years old being proclaim ready for sex with a 50 years old pedo maniac. Show a little respect to women on duty. Try and squeeze the breast of a femme officers in the US and they will just popped you like a champagne bottle or boot your balls upside down.
It would seem that if the scarf is a religious requirement, then it should be allowed. As a civilian, I would feel more comfortable in knowing when i came upon an officer wearing a scarf that she was doing so out of a religious obligation. Doing so serves to make them seem more human.

If the policewomen are allowed to wear the jailbub, on condition they ride camels while on duty.
Can one imagine how fearsome a battalion of women soldiers would look wearing sequinned and embroidered jeelbabs when engaged in battle?
