Humorous Sermons

Sep 6th, 2007, in News, by

Muslim preachers make too many jokes.

In Salatiga, Central Java on 29th August Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) leader Hasyim Muzadi complained about the following things:

  • the NU was spineless, one push and it almost fell. At the grassroots the NU was strong but at the top things were lacking. NU management methods had to be fixed up.
  • NU members got into too many fights about politics and political parties, they were too interested in getting parliament seats or political appointments.
  • NU people built too many mosques without then creating a community to fill the mosque.
  • In mosques sermons were often just speeches, sermon writers did not open their books and convey NU teachings to the faithful.
  • Sermons were too humorous, and people usually only remembered the jokes, as if they had just watched an episode of the television comedian Tukul.

Separately he also complained of the free entrance of middle eastern strains of Islam into Indonesia (see Pagan Rituals), saying that their basic teachings were not so much a problem but the political forces behind their entrance were, because they sought to change the basic system of the Indonesian state. suaramerdeka

Is islam a big joke anyway? He he
People may need to learn more on islamic history in 7-8th century, for example the fighting among themselves after mohammed death. Probably also corrupted mohammed’s teaching just like Sputjam usually says.

It was read somewhere in the financial world news that DUBAI WORLD invested by buying 10% shares in Las Vegas. Middle easterners attitudes have advanced. By not influencing such outdated 6th century phylosophy in Indonesia, may be this country can move forward. Any body care?

There’s nothing wrong if these sermons are humourous. Since the people remember the jokes, why not incorporate the values into them? By doing so, let’s just hope that they remember the sermons for the right reasons. But on a side note.

NU people built too many mosques without then creating a community to fill the mosque.

    I agree.

Look what’s happening. A CHURCH JUST GOT BOMBED.

    WHAT THE HECK?

Such actions will only breed resentment. Hate. Well maybe the sermons should preach about peace among religions.

I think it’s gonna be more constructive if the people of all religion here and the country work together to build a sense of common identity and solidarity together. Inter-faith Dialogues are a good place to start with.

Only then can we progress and advance.

    NU Members, your move.
