Sex cinemas, and how non-Muslims should behave during Ramadan.

The leader of the North Sumatra Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI), Lahmuddin Nasution, outlined on 12th September in Medan some basic rules for Ramadan observance for both Muslims and non-Muslims. antara

  • Cinemas should stop showing movies or advertisements of a sexual nature, because they would arouse sinful passions not appropriate during the fasting month.
  • Cafes, bars and discos should close down for the month.
  • Ramadan should be used an inspiration to wage war against illegal, sinful businesses, such as brothels presumably.
  • Muslim women should not wear revealing clothing or show their aurat in public.
  • Non-Muslims should not smoke on buses, nor eat and drink in public.
  • Company and government department bosses should pay special attention to their Muslim staff, and avoid provoking social problems.

He said Ramadhan touched all places and times throughout the month:

Muslims observe the holy month in the day and at night, in prayer meetings at home, in mosques, in mushollas, schools, and offices.

I wonder if similar consideration would be given to Christians or Hindus. North Sumatra is one of the most Islamicized parts of Indonesia, though.

  2. Ihaknt says:

The idea for ramachan is to resist temptations. Why do many muslims think they are so special that others have to do things to suit muslims? If the faith is strong enough, they can resist the bad things they have to face and that would make the puasa more afdol.

  3. Sylvester says:

The rules actually show the weakness and fear of many moslems around the world. Moslem has no confidence, even the imams do not trust their followers. It is true that statistically about 1 billion moslem in the world. However, considering the quality, it is low. Probably, only 10-20 % can be considered understand the teaching. Most of them become moslem because of their parents, not by themselves. Also, most of moslem now are not well educated. That’s why the harsh intolerant rule is forced.

There are so many hypocrite imams around the world. More dangerous than any weapon of mass destructions. Poor Indo people for having these.

Non-Muslims should not smoke on buses, nor eat and drink in public…huakakakakak this is funny.

  5. Andrew says:

This seems to be an annual topic.

I respect their religion and the rules they have to obey, but isn’t enduring temptations the main point of Ramadhan? if so, why do we have to get rid of all the temptations? I remember saying something like this last year in this forum: it’s like going to a test or exam knowing all the answers beforehand.

    How about this

    * Muslims shouldn’t go to cinema at all because they might be aroused by sinful passions not appropriate during the fasting month.
    * Muslims shouldn’t go to cafes, bars and discos for the whole month.
    * Ramadan should be used as a moment to show toleration and respect towards non Muslims
    * Muslim women should have a right to decide what kind kind of clothes they want to wear
    * Muslims should stay away from buses and other public places.
    * Muslim staffs have to learn not to get provoked so easily even if the company and government didn’t pay special attention.

Then we all can live in peace.

Isn’t the point in resisting temptation, the presence of temptations? The more temptations, the better it is.

  9. sonnie says:

Oh no ! Now they forced the non-muslims to do the ritual too ! Help ! Let me outta here !

  10. Putu Alberto Lee says:

Hmm…. they could argue: “it’s the same as the hindus in Bali; when they have this Nyepi thing, non-hindus are required to stay at home too.”

  11. Arema says:

Almost all of us can’t resist temptations, sooner or later we will fall. That’s why the Bible never teach us to resist, but to avoid temptations. So from one point of view I see their point to ask for “help” from their fellow non-muslim brothers/sisters. But on the other side, they shouldn’t put this as enforceable rules! They are they one who should avoid all the temptations they can’t resist!

Sure, bulan puasa is special… but shouldn’t they do this (resist temptations & avoid sin) EVERYTIME and not only on that month? Is it right to “act holy” in this one month, ask the others to respect your special month, and then happily burn everyone else on the remaining 11 months in that year? Hypocrites. You must try to please God and do good deeds every single time and not only at a particular month.

  12. sonnie says:

I never knew any sex cinemas? Do you mean cinemas that playing adult XXX rated movies? Where?

  13. Janma says:

they should make like a ramadhan game show…. parade naked women and aurat and all yummy type vices before the contestents…. they must be tabah sabar and holy and the holiest one wins….
Be not afraid of worldy beauty and material enjoyment if indeed ye are possessed of a higher taste not of this world. (the scripture according to Janma.)

  14. Sylvester says:

Baasyir and Aa Gym should be the coordinators for this ramadan game show.
Moslems believe they are tabah sabar, aren’t they, he he

  15. Ihaknt says:

Putu, Nyepi is only for one day. But muslims want their own way year in year out.

Non-Muslims should not smoke on buses, nor eat and drink in public.

what are the chances some of these people are actualy muslims themselves? BAH!

Although Nyepi is more of a local tradition thing than a religious one, I agree that it shouldn’t be forced on everybody.

I never smoke but I start tomorrow (I won’t swallow, that’s just for the fun of it).

AA gym? He is too busy making money with his islamic sms business… (he’s got a new wife to take care of…)

This is wierd, coming from North Sumatra. Aren’t there more Christians there, the Bataks?

Cinemas should stop showing movies or advertisements of a sexual nature, because they would arouse sinful passions not appropriate during the fasting month.

Where??? Such things exist? How did I miss it? Well, it will be open again after a month, it’s only a month, right? I’ll stick with my movies for a month, no biggies 🙂

Cafes, bars and discos should close down for the month.

Tough, during Ramadhan the waiter and waitresses make less money because less tips. Which means, they don’t eat sahur because, “Sorry, Nak, Ibu tidak punya cukup uang untuk beli sahur”. Which means, they are not eating and drinking by chance, not choice.

    What’s this no-eating-drinking-lusting deal anyways.

Till the end of time, it appears that Islam is practised by coercion and by making its practise easier for one month during the entire year. The other 11 months is immaterial.

Patung, hope you don’t mind I referred this page in my blog. It is just hillarious.

  22. Vinz says:

He ask to “respect and to behave the non-Muslim” is that all? its unfair why he did not ask for “respect every human being or respect the rights of everybody”. “Ramadan should be used an inspiration to wage war against illegal, sinful businesses, such as brothels presumably”. After the RAMADAN what will happen return to be sinful and war against other religion…. Why RAMADAN is only 1 month can we extend it to 1 whole year so that the year will be peace, no war and everybody will respect each other…

    Make Love – Not War!

Is it a sin to visit Sex Cinemas? When I was a very young boy, the Catholic Church had much more influence on the political and cultural life in Austria and this was so bad for my country! Censorship of films and newspapers – nudity was bad and forbidden, also in the arts. Pornography was strictly forbidden and there existed a lot of laws against it. Then, Austria has got a new government with Dr. Bruno Kreisky as social democratic chancellor. The feeling for me was similar like getting freedom after slavery!
All forbidden things like porno, nudity, love, happiness, sex, homosexuality etc. were allowed step by step – and it was very good so!

Now our churches are empty, most of the people don´t need them any more. They don´t believe the lies of the sick priests – they have learned to live a good life with a healthy sexuality. Austrias econonomy is in a top state and we have developped to one of the richest countries in the world with a good social system. It is similar with other European Union countries.

In the age of science and technology religion has lost it´s sense. Religious people are often frustrated, because it´s impossible for them to get satifaction!

To come back to my starting point. Is it a sin to visit a “Sex Cinema”? There are no sins in the world! The creation of sins by religious people make boring things in the fantasy of the people to thrilling ones!!! When you watch porno movies, they become so boring after a while – always the same (in and out and in and out … in every hole).

The REALLY THING is much better – making LOVE with one or two women (in my case)!!!

Life and nature are so great and wonderful!

So, let me understand. So a child molester is not doing wrong? a man who rapes a woman is actually ok? I mean… if sin is non-existent… then why would we condem those things that would make people happy? If someone likes touching little girls or penetrating little boys…let them!! Its whatever makes him happy that matters….

Things are not as easy as they seem my friend. Humans have shown time and time again that we need to be accountable for certain actions. We are capable of much ugliness.

I agree with the overall concensus. To force everyoen to abide by the laws of islam would be a breach on people’s free will…so… if muslims can not control the thoughts… stay behind doors.
