In early June 2007 a housekeeper in Medan, called Risma, who comes from Palembang, reported her boss Andi (50) to the police for forcing her to eat some pork meat.
The case excited some passions in Medan, easily understandable for those who have noticed the visceral disgust and loathing that many Muslims have whenever pork appears in view, or when the subject of pork eating or even touching of pork comes up. Abdullah Syah of Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI), for example, said anyone who forced a Muslim to eat pork was committing an insult to the whole Muslim community and he hoped that Andi would be given a suitably severe punishment. republika
Meanwhile, in early August 2007, further south in Risma’s home town of Palembang, South Sumatra province, an unrelated incident involving accusations that a producer of bakso, meatball soup, fills his meatballs with pork instead of beef, and then sells them to unsuspecting people.

An unnamed man reported Saparuddin bin Ramlan (48) to the police and claimed that Saparuddin was motivated by profit:
He makes more money that way.
Saparuddin bin Ramlan, who is from Kediri, East Java, supplies bakso to five mobile sellers and admits to having used pork in his product for two years, and buys eight kilograms of pork to last for three days production. Pork costs 20,000 rupiah per kilogram, he says, while beef costs 50,000.
Police arrested Saparuddin and two of his sellers on 10th August, and confiscated four kilograms of pork, and hundreds of bakso “balls”. okezone

Pork and it’s derivative is not “halal” for Muslims. I’m a Muslim so I know how sensitive this issue for us. On the contrary some Muslims don’t mind to be corrupt government officers (non-government officers as well). It’s not halal too!

The coming of Islam unified Arab tribes not long after the birth of christ. I see Islam as a good relligion however I don’t see a reason why it should become law in Indonesia where it violates Pancasila. If Pancasila is dead then this country is dead also.

I and other dedicated good Muslims lament the fact that majority of our Indonesian brothers and sisters especially the NU and Muhammadiyah followers do not follow the tenet of Islam to the dot. In Indonesia, Muslimah do not wear burqa, Chinese restaurants sell pork products and non-Muslims do not pay jizyah tax. I’m sorry for the people who believe in Islam not that the religion is pathetic, I envy the religion because I believe in it also.
But I believe that God have left the world of islam long time ago because what I see is violence and pain in the country of its origin itself.
Mohamad once asked his people what is Islam, people would answer it is a religion that governs people into one fate of god. Mohamad shooks his head and said no my friend, it is good morale and wisdom, a teaching that makes you become a good citizen of god. “If one truly care about god, then he/she must first care about his creations.”
So now I ask you why is Al’Qaeda terrorists, Indonesian Islam Extremist, cause violence that creates a public image that they do not care about other people when their prior goal is to care about the creations of god before they can care about god?
That is why I said God has left Islam, because the people in it doesn’t care about its creations anymore, doesn’t care about the people who wanted to believe in hindhu, budha, Christianity, and so on. I disagree. The western world is tagging along Muslims’ achievements. Some school canteens in Australia are taking off bacon and ham off their menu. Some universities in the states, Europe and Australia are having separate baths and wash areas for us Muslims. Kit Kat chocolate are halal-certified in Australia. There are more to come. No other religions get this special priviledge because the bules know Islam will soon rule the world. If Allah Subhana Wata’ala willed, He would have eradicated all pagans religion altogether. But Allah is oft-merciful, all wise and most compassionate.
Daniel, very soon the meat that you will be buying halal meat from your local supermarket.

That’s because western society is more tolerant, respect others. It is the same for other religion as well. The standard way here is that before any official dinner, the commitee will ask about any specific dietary requirement to each person.

The abstention from eating pork is one of the steps taken by Islam to practise hygiene and to attain purity of soul.

You do have an elaboration of that many disease and so on but does not touch up on others. Like bird flu. Mad cow.. etc. Every human, animal do have sickness and disease with regardless. But…
It is not the disease or the animal concern or food. It is always in a certain topic of discussion that someone always tends to make reference to a particular race in reference to the food they eat making these people disgusting s**t.

dragonwall, you have a valid point… However, in proprtion to the diseases and sickness related to to eating the flesh of the swine, other edible meats of the animals pales in insignificance to the problems that are caused by eating pork. Mad cow (or BSE) and Bird Flu etc. are NOT naturally occuring diseases as they are a result of human interaction/intervention and are ‘bred’ into the dangerous viral strains that they can mutate to become.
As pointed out previously, the swine is quite different to the cow or chickens etc. in it it’s biological makeup and the causes and affects of consuming it’s flesh. No one is condoning your practise or appetite for pork because you are responsible for your own actions, it is simply a matter of putting the facts in perspective without the emotions ruling over our intellect.

The PORK(SWINE, PIG) according to Quran is HALAL. The religious tradition who forbade this (haram) and I think islam clerics follow what had been said by Jewish clerics.
The verse is miss translated THE MEAT KHINZIR from the correct translation THE FILTHY MEAT the word Khinzir not for a species but for describing the substances which look filty or unhealthy. So the name ‘pig’ is called by this background in arabic.
One must remember other verse from Quran that said group of people become MONKEY and PIG. This only metaphor for Ugly dan Dirty.
The word ‘khinzir ara’ in the arabic mean ‘look dirty (filthy, muddy, mucky)
The other clue we can learn from surrounding of this verse are talking about the body part and condition of animals. If suddenly jump to the specific species then it is obvious that someone had make an innovation to that verse.
Many other words had been miss translated by islamic clerics as also many happen in Taurat and Injil by their religious clerics.

Er, no, actually humans and pigs are rather unusual as mammals in that both DO actually have sweat glands. And whilst toxins are undoubtedly excreted in sweat, sweating’s primary function is temperature regulation not excretion.

New to this thread…but the original posting related to some bloke feeding someone pork when he new they were Muslim and not an argument about who has the best or worst eating habits and whose religion is better.
The fella that fed the Muslim pork perhaps thought it was funny based on a really warped sense of humor. Let’s face it if Muslims do not wanna eat pork and for whatever reasons they have then so be it that is their choice based on their understandings of their religion.
If you want to argue about the validity of religion then I am hoping that you have a little bit more substance than whether the religion permits the eating of pork. If that is all you have then perhaps the common ground between Jews and Muslims that will assist in resolving the perpetual cycle of violence racking the Middle East and Israel could be their common dislike of pork!
Or perhaps with an ever-growing number of Muslims in the world and you were able to convince them that they really are allowed to eat pork and the prohibition was just a mistranslation or misinterpretation of the word, then you would have this huge new market for pork and pork products…think of the cash involved!

Couldn’t agree more, and I don’t usually involve myself in these kinds of debates as I prefer to watch and learn. That said, when dawud farquhar said that pigs don’t sweat and therefore are unusual as mammals I felt unable to resist pointing out that this was indeed a mistake in fact.
That said, if one relies on the internet as a singular source of information, then mistakes like this will occur. To paraphrase a well known saying: check twice, say once.
