Anti Islam Website

May 12th, 2007, in News, by

An anti Islam website run by a Christian political party.

Dozens of people from the “Forum Remaja Islam” (FRI), Islamic Youth Forum, descended on the offices of the Partai Damai Sejahtera (PDS), Prosperous Peace Party, on 11th May in Solo, Central Java, to complain about the existence of a PDS website which insulted Islam, specifically by casting aspersions on the character of Muhammad bin Abdullah, the prophet of Islam.

Partai Damai Sejahtera
Partai Damai Sejahtera.

Some representatives of the mob entered the PDS offices and were met by local party chairman Effendi Siahaan. As they discussed the problem some shouting and threats were heard however no violence occurred. okezone

Effendi Siahaan later said he had no idea about the website, which is apparently no longer operational, or what the name of the website was. Effendi further said that those responsible for the creation of the website would be punished, assuming they were found, and he has transmitted an apology to all Muslims in Solo through local media channels. okezone

On 11th May, just after the “Forum Remaja Islam” (FRI) visit to PDS offices in Solo, the leader of the PDS nationally, Denny Tewu, announced that he had dismissed several members of the party’s central committee in Solo. The reason given was that the offenders had caused sectarian hatreds to rear their head. The Solo branch of the party has essentially been taken over by the Central Java office. partaidamaisejahtera

A Jawa Pos report of 11th May states that the offfensive material was not a “website” but an “article” on a website. jawapos In this report Effendi Siahaan is supposed to have said that the PDS does not have an official website – which doesn’t seem to be the case – http://www.partaidamaisejahtera.com/. http://www.partaidamaisejahtera.com/ until recently had a moderately active web forum – this forum has been removed sometime in the last week however pages from it can still be viewed via Google cache: site:www.partaidamaisejahtera.com vbulletin. There are many “anti Islam” topics to found in the cached results.

Oigal – again, top-notch posts. It is slightly unsettling finding myself applauding just about everything you post, but I do these days. Odd.

Random aside on the gay-disco aspect of Islamic society: the Pashtuns (who I do, I confess, go on about probably more often than I ought to on a site about Indonesia) are just about the gayest people on earth since the Ancient Greeks (that may be hyperbole; pray excuse me)… They are also, for those who don’t know, the same people from whose ranks the Taliban, more or less exclusively, spring, and certainly the most conservatively Muslim people in the Pakistan-Afghanistan area… The town of Banu in the tribal areas of Pakistan is, in the parlence of really sh*tty newspapers, an “al-Qaeda-Taliban stronghold”; it is also the – ahem – butt of a lot of jokes in other parts of Pakistan for its notorious man-on-man tendencies…
I once spent an interesting evening in a filthy teahouse in Khapalu in Baltistan in the high Karakoram with three large Pashtun gentlemen from Waziristan, who were, of all the unlikelihoods, in the village selling socks and ladies’ underwear to the locals (Shia Muslims of Tibetan descent)… They showed me the pictures in their wallets of their beautiful young boyfriends, and sung songs about fragrent young men… They were very nice, but I retreated to my grubby room early, and, shivering in the cold and clamping my flashlight between my teeth I stacked all the sparse furniture against the door and crept under the covers, wide-eyed in the darkness and not-a-little alarmed as the singing continued in the courtyard…

Wow, I’m impressed with the utter intelligence of this statement. I’ve never been short of arguments against frustrated feminist crap, but this one beats them all. Feminism as the reason for child sex tourism! Amazing what Islamic teaching can do to the brain.

diego – those one’s look kind of silly and pantomimish – especially the second one. I guess that’s what passes for a wild night in Central Asia. Ain’t exactly dangdut is it?

At a carnival in Gilgit some horny local youths encouraged me to check out the “entertainment” in a grubby tent behind the rickety ferris wheel. There were tatty Bollywood film posters taped up outside, and inside a pair of monstrous, stubbly transvestites were dancing with about as much grace and eroticism as the burqa’d chap in your second clip. The atmosphere inside amongst the spectators teetered between lary hilarity and real – and to my mind utterly inexplicable – arrousal. A bit like a British rugby club changing room, I guess…
I have though seen in the flesh a real-deal dancing boy in action at a village festival in Chitral, and I did find the whole thing pretty disturbing in its blatant, raging – and very effective – eroticism (and the boy looked like he was about 13 too, to make matters worse)… (Seen somewhat similar things in India too, just to make it clear it’s not only the Muslims, though they do seem to have been the principal inheritors of that aspect of Greek culture…)
The “gay” element of Muslim – or more specifically Arab – culture has clearly been a key attraction for several of the most notable Orientalist British Arabists and Islamophiles – Thesiger, Burton, Lawrence etc ( NOT me though, not having been to public school…)
Read T.E. Lawrence [of Arabia], anyone? The opening passage of The Seven Pillars of Wisdom is a jaw-droppingly sweaty-palmed ode to “clean” young men, “quivering together in the yeilding sand” or something like that – so I guess the British are probably the second gayest, after the Muslims…

What you’re suprised? Although, to be fair those whose seek the most to limit another persons choices in life are always those with the deep seated insecurity issues. They exist in the far “right” of all religions although most others have stopped bagging and tagging their women.

    Cukurungan say:

It’s all that old boys school thing..Is there really that much difference in the homo-erotic rituals of a British Upper Class boaring school and the men (and boys only) Pesantren.

Both contain a plethora of sexually repressed, socially stunted young men being taught by a bunch of men whose whole life exposure to the real world has been thru the prism of a myopic, obdurate, dogmatic overlay at odds with humanity’s progress at large.

Or put simply… Gays with rituals are still gay

  18. Achmad Sudarsono says:

    Halo Mr. Oigals,

    You are very smart.

    What does “obdurate” mean ?

  19. Oigal says:

Hey Assmad, Was getting worried bout you, thought you had finally been shipped off to become a Malaysian pirates plaything..

obdurate: hard, obstinate, callous, unbending, inflexible, unregenerate, reprobate, shameless

or as an adjective: unmoved by persuasion, pity, or tender feelings; stubborn; unyielding.

At least I think thats what it means by I am just a poor bloke from the Bush without much edumication..

Whenever young men are told to hang out in large groups consisting only of other men, and to deny themselves both natural relations with women, or forms of self-relief of…er…pressures, they tend to develop both predilections for violence and…certain feelings for other members of their peer groups.

Absolutely, and to which I would add that such places, by their very nature, create a mindset in which the entire of womankind is the Other – utterly incomprehensible, certainly; contemptible, probably; and offensive and dangerous, quite possibly.
    Hell, I’m glad I went to a sh*tty state school…

Incidentally, here’s the TE Lawrence bit I was going on about:
For context this is an idolised totem of the “honourable renegade” facet of the imagined “British character”, an indulgent ponce galumphing around on a camel with a bunch of irregular – in more than one sense – Arabs during the First World War, making petty actions against the Ottoman Turks (then the colonial player in the Middle East) and suffering from a severe case of mythomania…

The men were young and sturdy; and hot flesh and blood unconsciously claimed a right in them and tormented their bellies with strange longings. Our privations and dangers fanned this virile heat, in a climate as racking as can be conceived. We had no shut places to be alone in, no thick clothes to hide our nature. Man in all things lived candidly with man.
The Arab was by nature continent; and the use of universal marriage had nearly abolished irregular courses in his tribes. The public women of the rare settlements we encountered in our months of wandering would have been nothing to our numbers, even had their raddled meat been palatable to a man of healthy parts. In horror of such sordid commerce our youths began indifferently to slake one another’s few needs in their own clean bodies – a cold convenience that, by comparison, seemed sexless and even pure. Later, some began to justify this sterile process, and swore that friends quivering together in the yielding sand with intimate hot limbs in supreme embrace, found there hidden in the darkness a sensual coefficient of the mental passion which was welding our souls and spirits in one flaming effort.

Really, I don’t know what more one could possibly say…

Why ? Why are they so homoerotic ?

    Any ideas ?

Assmad..after such a long absence, we were expecting a much bigger entrance..(oops sorry another Malay Pirate aside).

  27. Oigal says:

All this talk of gays, sand and boarding schools remainds me of the old joke..

“An old arab sheik was riding his bow legged camel through the blazing desert and he came across a nubile young boy buried up to his neck in the dunes.

The boy cried out “Please help me oh honourable Sheik”

The Sheik thought hard and said “What’s in it for me”

The Boy replied (with a wink) “Sand”

  28. timdog says:

    Is that a liberal-conservative joke? I liked it anyway…

Achmad – why are the Pashtuns homoerotic? Interesting question. I would be inclined to say the principal reason is, as Oigal and myself have been discussing, the British public school/prison/tough-sailors-far-away-at-sea aspect of their society. Pashtuns are formidably conservative, especially when it comes to women. Interestingly, though being ostensibly very “Muslim”, their traditional defining cultural concepts are actually non-Islamic, or at best supra-Islamic, in the form of uniquely Pashtun social codes in which honour, revenge, formalised hospitality, pride, bravery and property are central tenets. Women, rather unpleasantly, tend to fall under the property bit. This code is almost certainly pre-Islamic in its origins (the Pashtun are historically identifiable pre-Islam) so conservative ideas about women amongst them may well be too…
So – traditionally Pashtun women are not seen by anyone except their immediate family. They practice very strict purdah. Because of this young men get to see no members of the opposite sex except their mothers and sisters, and as domestic life is also fairly segregated they don’t even see much of these…
If all you ever see of womankind is a furtively scurrying powder-blue shuttlecock, then, I would imagine, in the words of Florence of Arabia, that “strange longings would torment one’s belly” – just like in prison or boarding school… Amongst the Pashtun’s man does indeed live candidly with man…
Now, of course, there are other conservatively “masculine” societies or circumstances that don’t seem to be quite so “gay” as the Pashtuns, so a secondary aspect is probably at play – namely a tacit acceptance of homosexual practice (rather than, it should be noted, homosexuality itself – hypocrites!). If it’s “normal” for men to have sex with men, if there are poems and folk songs about love between men (“there is a boy across the river with a bottom like a peach, but alas I cannot swim!”), then people are clearly more likely to pursue those strange longings, I guess…
There is one final wildly romantic but highly unlikely possibility: everyone knows that the Ancient Greeks were the original champions of homosexuality. There are various origin myths amongst the Pashtuns (some of them, interestingly, believe themselves to be one of the Lost Tribes – imagine! The Taliban are Jews!), but throughout the top-left corner of the Indian Subcontinent there is a widespread mythology surrounding Alexander the Great. The notorious Greek-Macedonian adventurist/homosexual did indeed come rampaging through the Khyber Pass en route for India, but the leftovers attributed to him in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan do rather stretch things. Basically, anyone with blue/green eyes and red/blond hair in the region (of who there are more than a few – amongst Pashtuns and others) attribute the traits to Alexandrian genes. Various cultural practices also get given a Greek pedigree. All rather unlikely if you ask me, but it could be claimed that the whole gay Pashtun thing is a cultural relic of the sweaty man-fest of a leather-clad Greek army 2300 years ago. Nice story anyway…

There are certain “conditions” attached to homosexual practice amongst the Pashtuns, and indeed throughout India and Pakistan – as I alluded, homosexual practice seems to be OK, but being a homosexual (i.e. making it a defining part of your identity and refusing to marry a woman) is catagorically not; also being, the… er… “giver” is fine; being the… er… “taker” is not (not sure how they work that out amongst themselves)…

Anyway, despite mercifully never having been to public school, and despite being a liberal bed-wetter who doesn’t like my women hidden under blue shuttlecocks, I’m conversely enough of an indulgently romantic orientalist to find something appealing about supremely hospitable, yet rather intimidating men with beards – and eyeliner – a machinegun in one hand and a rose in the other…

  29. Oigal says:

    furtively scurrying powder-blue shuttlecock,

Ok, that I like and fair warning I am going to pinch and pretend its mine..

I’m conversely enough of an indulgently romantic orientalist to find something appealing about supremely hospitable, yet rather intimidating men with beards – and eyeliner – a machinegun in one hand and a rose in the other…

And this I find rather unsettling although dare I say confirmatory of my opinion of the profession (Assuming I have puzzled the profession correctly). 🙂
