Malayan Arabic

Mar 15th, 2007, in Society, by

People in Aceh must learn Malayan Arabic.

Professor Muslim Ibrahim of the Aceh clerical council, Majelis Permusyawaratan Ulama (MPU) and a literature lecturer at the Ar-Raniry Islamic university, IAIN, in Banda Aceh, says it is vital that all Muslims in the province learn to read Malayan Arabic (Arab-Melayu), called locally jawoe (jawi elsewhere in Indonesia). Malayan Arabic/Jawoe is the written form of Arabic developed by Muslims in Aceh in the early stages of the religion’s penetration of the region and it combines Arab script with some aspects of Malay.

Professor Muslim Ibrahim says:

It’s important that all Muslims in Aceh be able to read books written in Jawoe Arabic

As Muslims it’s important we learn Jawoe literature.

The professor hopes that all Acehnese will be proficient in the language within ten years. In particular students must learn to read compilations of Islamic law written in the Acehnese form of Arabic. antara

Do they actually believe in Islam or in Arabic culture? What happens to preserving the Acehnese traditional culture? The dances, the songs, etc?

  2. Madesh says:

The next issue will be in order to get closer to God Acehnese women should marry men of Arabic descendent.

Like what Jusuf Kala once said so for Cianjur women on contract marriage

  3. Agusto says:

The next thing you know you will all be forced to memorize the quran in Arabic! I guess you should start registering for a class at your local madrasseh before they are full! Once you graduate from that place you will be a mujahideen and go to paradise to meet your 72 virgins!

    Peace! (if you surrender)

  4. Rockstar says:

I think we all should learn English instead.

  5. Bas says:

Learning bahasa Jawi is absolutely vital for the futur of Acehneses. That’s for sure…

  6. Tomaculum says:

Rockstar, better to learn the language of tolerance and love? 🙂

  7. Yunir says:

Why must we learn other people’s language? Let others learn our language – whatever that language is!

  8. Madesh says:

Why do those people always expect to get 72 virgins as their objectives of their good deed? What such a sex oriented teaching they have got. I have never read such things even in Kamasutra.

  9. Hassan says:

Well, more “72 virgins” arguments, surprise, surprise!

I had always been amazed on the fact that certain non-Moslems are more familiar with that particular teaching (the 72 virgins in paradise thing) than Muslims themselves! Because it was a hoax and slander, perhaps?

Please don’t just say things that you don’t know about, especially regarding the teachings of other faiths. If indeed you’re saying the truth, then point which part of the Quran or Hadith that said such a thing.

    I dare you!

  10. Aluang anak Bayang says:

(QURAN 78:31-34): “As for the righteous, they shall surely triumph. Theirs shall be gardens and vineyards, and high-bosomed virgins for companions: a truly overflowing cup.”
(QURAN 52:24): “And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls.”
(QURAN 56:17): “They will be served by immortal boys.”

Madesh, I challenge you too. There are busty maids for endless sex, and young silky boys. Show me where it says 72 virgins. (personally, I like the virgins reward, but silky boys make me puke).

Hassan, you are right. Allah says we can have sex with many virgins and young boys, but never mention 72. There are perhaps over 100.

  11. Robert says:

    Madesh,

I have never read such things even in Kamasutra.

Is the Kamasutra for virgins then?

  12. Hassan says:

Aluang anak Bayang : There, you showed yet another perfect example that when you approach holy scriptures with lust and evil intentions, then you will find evil inside. But if you approach them with righteous and good intentions, then you will find good.

Quran verse 78 and some other verses did mention about the virgins, but the word used in the verses was companions (“virgins for companions”). Companions can have a lot of interpretations, including company. Wouldn’t you like to be accompanied by beautiful virgins in your stay in paradise? On the other hand, isn’t your current wife also your companion here on earth? Did you marry your wife for the sake of sex only? I guess not.

So, ‘companions’ there is quite similar to your wife’s companionship here, only much better and everlasting. Companions anywhere meant people who can make you feel loved, respected, welcomed, and understood, so they’re not necessarily limited to people who will fulfill your lustful desires. Unless when someone mentioned the word companion your mind then instantly relates to sex, of course. If in heaven those companions should be gorgeous well mannered virgins, then so be it.

Actually I cannot speculate whether people will have sex or not in paradise, because as you might realize already, believe it or not I haven’t been there. One thing for sure, the verses didn’t say anything about sex, orgies, or intercourses with 100 or more people. Perhaps that notion came from you lustful dirty mind, eh?

Verse 52 and 56 didn’t mention anything about sex, either. Would you imagine that boy-servants there meant… servants, who serve as butlers or something of that nature? We have old gray haired butlers here on earth, so what’s wrong with having young butlers in paradise? Again, if your lustful dirty imagination translate the word “serve” into sex then we can judge what kind of person you are, can’t we?

Perhaps you should get rid of those prejudice and lustful dirty thoughts of yours first before trying to comprehend ANY religious texts if you want to understand their sublime messages.

  13. Robert says:

    Aluang anak Bayang,

Which version of the Quran do you read? Yours is quite elaborate, while the ones I see are more modest in their use of certain words (“companion” instead of “virgin”). And which Surah mentions the number 100?

  14. Aluang anak Bayang says:

Hassan. Darn! What do you think we should do now? All those young suicide bombers blasted their bodies into pieces to get there. They were expecting sex like me. Darn Allah had made a fool of us. So the busty beautiful wide eyed virgins in paradise are for ‘see but no touch’ just like going to a nude dancing club where one get aroused.

Ouch! I should have kicked myself for being so stupid. Honestly, I was expecting plenty of sex with virgins (I’ll leave the boys for you). I should have discovered this site earlier. Thanks for enlightening me on this one.

Robert: I did a google search on 72 virgins and this site popped up.
    http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchive/2006/11/72_virgins.html

Hassan: I will be back online to chat with you in few days’ time. Have a plane to catch in few hours’ time. Gotta pack up. Ta.

  15. Hassan says:

    Aluang anak Bawang:

“They were expecting sex like me.”

Maybe not, we can’t read their minds, can we? But we can read yours, can’t we? 😉

“Darn Allah had made a fool of us.”

How can that be the case when He never ever said anything like that?

“Honestly, I was expecting plenty of sex with virgins (I’ll leave the boys for you).”

Your religion taught you that? Mine didn’t, especially the boys thing.

Aluang anak Bayang: Unfortunately the site you provided (http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchive/2006/11/72_virgins.html) isn’t very scientific nor credible.

Heck, I can do a google search and find sites that say the pope is a gay, just to give you an example. 😀

  16. Ari says:

I don’t understand: is Malayan Arabic really Arabic language or it is just bahasa Melayu or Acehnese written in a special form of Arabic alphabet?

  17. 1ndra says:

says it is vital that all Muslims in the province learn to read Malayan Arabic

It’s vital, for me it’s true, but vital isn’t the same as wajib.
Many people learn english, chinese, german, spain, russian, and their writings bla bla bla, why giving it a matter to learn Arabic?
Muslim any way a step closer to Arabic than English because they read it everyday everytime. Then why matter it?
Anyway, implementing (reading Quran) without knowing (at least the translation) is something funny, we know a false speech could totally ruin the meaning.

For example : Praising Allah could be false speeched with eat (Qul with Kul).

Just like saying ‘Sent me a fax’ but instead sounding like ‘Sent me a f u c k’ then your friend sent you a bitch instead.

I have never read such things even in Kamasutra.

Not 72 virgins, maybe just new 72 postions added or maybe just a variation from 69.

Augusto, why do you make these ridiculous, intolerant, hate mongering comments and then just dissapear? Don’t you have the intelligence to join in any debate, anybody can go to a hate site and find comments such as yours, it hardly takes any intellect at all does it?

    Peace (unconditional)

Hasan, you just gave the perfect example why any religion-based law is so difficult to implement and in the end downright dangerous. Who is interpreting the holy text? Who has the authority to distill laws out of a religious text? I guess for everything that is written in the Quran (or any other religious script) there several interpretations. So who is to determine what is right and what is wrong? I wouldn’t want to put this in the hands of a small unelected elite of religious scholars who are often out of touch with reality.

  20. Aluang anak Bayang says:

Let’s not be too worried about the 72 virgins, even though I liked the idea. 😛 I am more concerned about the threat of Arabanisation and plight of my own country fellowmen than some heavenly sex adventure.

But Hassan, if you think that I approached the holy scripture with lust and evil intents, it was my religious teacher who put that in my head. There was no direct mention of 72 virgins, but it went like this, “Climax during sex is the ultimate gift Allah can give to mankind and it lasts for a short time. The sex climax in heaven that Allah gave to good righteous Muslims will be eternal”. Just in case you don’t know, I am a Muslim by birth and I do go to religious studies.

Wow a climax that lasts for all eternity, sounds more like Hell to me!

I think your teacher may have been refering to Islamic doctorine by Abu al-Fadl ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti (c. 1445-1505 AD). He was apparently trained in Fiqh, Nahu, Tafseer, Usool, Balaagha, and Ma’aanee. And he received ijaazah religious authorization to issue Fatwa, and is considered by those who follow sunnah and Hadith to be a very learned man!

He wrote: “Each time we sleep with a houri we find her virgin. Besides, the penis of the Elected never softens. The erection is eternal; the sensation that you feel each time you make love is utterly delicious and out of this world and were you to experience it in this world you would faint. Each chosen one [ie Muslim] will marry seventy [sic] houris, besides the women he married on earth, and all will have appetising vaginas.”

He must have been very learned indeed to have been able to come to these conclusions from just Allah’s words alone!

Now I think I can understand why we have so many devoted followers of Hadith, Sunnah and Islamic Orthodoxy!

    Peace

You won’t find this in Christian scriptures! Many Christians will change directions when they have take notice of the sciptures Abu al-Fadl ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti.

  23. Aluang anak Bayang says:

There you go Hassan – well behaved wide eyed, big bossomed, delicious vaginas virgins but only as companions. How cruel of Allah.

I didn’t bother to respond to you because you are simply incapacitated of logical thinking. Take for example: a dad telling his young son, “if you behave well today, I will buy you a truck load of toys”. Even a down syndrome child knows that he will have a lot of toys to play with if he behave well.

  24. Aluang anak Bayang says:

No wonder some people excelled in life, whereas others don’t.

  25. Hassan says:

I’m sure you excelled in life, and I don’t (how can I lie to you because you knew me too darn well). You are so very logical. There, whatever makes you happy in your own liberal little word, bigoted man…

  26. Cukurungan says:

    Robert,

Could you please tell me how your holy human popes, priests and nuns relieve their sexual desire? Don’t tell me that those holy person don’t need sex?

    thanks,

  27. Arab community says:

Hmmm, interesting. Even animals have sexual desires.

  28. Tuan says:

No … you will find verses of in the Bible that have rape, subjugation of women, genocide, etc.

“That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.
“The next day the older daughter said to the younger, ‘Last night I lay with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.’ So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.
“So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father.” (Gen 19:33-36)
