The head of the organising committee of the Partai Keadilan Sejehtera (PKS), or Welfare/Justice Party, in Sumenep, eastern Madura, East Java, one Ach Ready, has threatened to erase some kind of artwork, perhaps a mural, at the Adipura park in the city, which he says is a six sided star and therefore looks like the Star of David on the flag of Israel.
If the decoration at Adipura park whick looks like a Jewish symbol is not removed then PKS members will do it ourselves.
Muslims are extremely sensitive about Jews or things that remind them of Jews, says Ready, and he fears that protests will arise if the symbol is not gotten rid of.

Didn’t they know, there is more beyond the symbol? If they truly want to boycott them, then stop consuming Cocacola, watching football (esp if they are Arsenal’s fans), dump their Nokias, stop drinking Aqua Water (which is under Danone), and oh ya, stop using Intel and switch to AMD. And switch to Linux btw (Steve Ballmer is a Jew).
And so what? How far are they going to isolate themselves? Instead of doing something positive they are just making themselves looked stupid.

Your moslem friend doesn’t understand the Alquran. Alquran never said anything sound like that. Never teach to hate Jewish or Christians.

Al Quran clearly states that Any who believe in God, do good deeds and believe in The Day of Judgement, have nothing to fear. God also quite catagorically states that his name is praised in Jewish Temples and in Christian Churches as well as in Mosques.
God does warn in Al Quran against Some Jews and Christians but only those who do not follow his Straight Path, this does not mean to follow Al Quran, but the original Scriptures or Messages which they were given, or the parts that exist which are divinely inspired. He I am sure would warn also against Muslims of the present day who reject his teaching and just follow Sunnah and Hadith.
Andrew your friend was missguided as are the vast majority of the Muslim Ummah, they follow teachings of intolerance and injustice, they do not even understand the meaning of Islam, let alone the meanings of Believer, Unbeliever, and Non Believer. They are just followers, follow being the operative word as they are not taught to understand anything just to follow what they are told.

What’s the use of erasing symbols of a religion that’s not yours? It’s an empty gesture that will not help Palestine. Nothing to be proud about.
Why oh why so many (?) people in the Islamic world run to an extreme, dogmatic, irrational version of their religion, to define their own identity? It should be clear to them by now that nothing will change by claiming the superior moral highground. That’s only an easy, weak, immature and illogic attitude.
It would be much better to regain selfconfidence by improving the national welfare.

Well I even doubt that most Indonesians can actually differentiate between Judaism as a religion, Jew as an ethnic group and Israel as a country.
Not everyone in Israel is a Jew.
Not every Jew is a supporter of Zionism.
Not every Jew (ethnic group) follows the Jewish faith. -

So let me get this straight – Quotes from old texts are always so confusing.
1) Christians and Jews are perverse.
2) Muslims have a duty to strike off the heads and fingers of Unbelievers.
3) Muslims have an obligation from god to wage war on unbelievers.
4) Unbelievers should be punished in nasty ways.
5) Unbelievers should acknowledge Muslims as their masters and pay a tax superiors (Muslims) in order to avoid annihilation.

No wonder there is a credibility gap in the religion of peace, can someone please place these quotes in their proper context.

I think the mistake that people often make (not just in Islam, but also other religion) is that they often study the scripture by taking it apart.
You can’t just read the scripture part by part, you have to read it as whole. When you pick one by one, you can pick the one you like and justify the action you do (like taking multiple wives).

My Yusuf Ali translation of the Quran shows the following:
Quran 9:30. “The Jews call ‘Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah’s curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!”
Quran 9:123. “O ye who believe! fight the unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him.”
Quran 8:12. “Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): “I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them.”
Quran 5:33. “But Allah was not going to send them a penalty whilst thou wast amongst them; nor was He going to send it whilst they could ask for pardon.”
Quran 9:29. “O ye who believe! if ye fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion (to judge between right and wrong), remove from you (all) evil (that may afflict) you, and forgive you: for Allah is the Lord of grace unbounded.”

pj_bali: Wallid falsified and twisted the Quran and quoted the Quran incorrectly, so unfortunately your conclusion is a wrong one. Now, what can you conclude from the original verses which I had quoted?

That what happens when the law don’t work, because of poor enforcement and it’s inferiority before the ever-powerful money. That’s Indonesia, my friends.
When that happens, no wonder people kept taking the law into their own hand, either via bribing court officials or using brute force (for the people who had no money to bribe with).

On a similar note, has anyone ever noticed the official US State Dept. seal? I got a letter from the embassy (all embassies are under the State Dept) and the seal was big and clear. It’s quite obviously the same 6-pointed star surrounded by a ring of feathers or something.
Just thought that was interesting and I was trying to find the origins of it but couldn’t come up with anything. Anyone know the origin and symbolism of that?

As a person interested in the history of religions it gives me pains to see the same attitudes spread all over the world, resumed in “brandish your truth and destroy all those who don’t think like you”. I love Judaism, Islam and Christianity in the abstract, but worry about what people do with them when they stop questioning. True believers (including zealous atheists) are more likely to hate than moderates, liberals and the agnostic.
Anyone who degrades or judges a mass of people based upon the actions of a minority or a bigoted distortion of ancient beliefs is worthless in my book.
