The Bali government bans the film “Long Road to Heaven”.
Long Road to Heaven, a film that tells the story of the lead-up to the October 2002 Bali terror bombings at Kuta, has been declined a rating by the Bali censorship board and therefore cannot be shown on the island.
Long Road to Heaven.
I Gusti Ngurah Gede, head of the island’s film censorship board, said of the banning of the film:
It is still too soon for the Balinese to watch this.
He said he feared that old wounds would be opened by the movie, and that Balinese officials, religious leaders and relatives of the victims, watched the film recently and most agreed it should not be shown out of fear that it may cause tensions on the resort island.
Long Road to Heaven scene.
Long Road to Heaven is a controversial film even outside of Bali, given that it tells much of the story from the point of view of the terrorists, and contains the suggestion that the wild behaviour of some western tourists on Bali brought down the attack from outraged Muslims, the bombers.
Well they shouldn’t have bombed anyone just to be heard to start with! There are other ways to get your point across.
“¦and contains the suggestion that the wild behaviour of some western tourists on Bali brought down the attack from outraged Muslims, the bombers.
Nothing wrong with that. Don’t see why that should make a film controversial.
I don’t quite agree with the title of the movie! It should be “short cut to heaven” or “martyrdom”!
I have watched it. Just another bad movie.
The interesting thing is the reaction of the Balinese government. I have always said the Balinese are one of the most fascist people in Indonesia. I just wonder when foreigners will start realizing it.
I don’t feel more uneasy anywhere in Indonesia than in Bali when I walk with my Indonesian wife. Men look at her as they would like to kill her.
If you walk with a girl who looks like a whore it’s ok. It’s fun and they like it (westerners deserve these girls). But if you are with a beautiful, classy, not “bule type” cheap girl woowwww and if they think she is Balinese, ailllllleeee better stay in your 4 stars hotel where the people have to smile despite what they think about you.
Long Road to Heaven is a euphemism of “Short Cut to HELL”.
Hey Bas, I can sympathise with you! I get the same look too when I go to Jakarta with my husband. Typical judgmental people huh?!
I hear you too Bas. My experience was very similar, albeit it not only on Bali. You should try Semarang – that’s the worst place to go if you’re western with an Indonesian wife. But Bali was pretty close too. I guess if we could understand Bahasa Bali it would bring it up on par with Semarang where all the crap comes in Javanese (which we understand).
Long Road to Heaven is a euphemism of “Short Cut to HELL”.
Yeah Madesh you’re right.
I wonder how much time they will be punished in hell because of killing civilians.
Jihad? They might not have read Quran.
What have made chaotic condition in Indonesia?
1. Poverty and lack of education of most of the people have made them easily provoked.
2. Some clerics either purposely or not like to spread hatreds among religion followers. They are using religions as vehicles to political positions.
3. The government has been too tolerant or has no guts to solve all the problems completely, or even using them as political issues to retain their position in the next election.
4. It seems to me that everyone has objective to reach political position to get the opportunity to do corruption which is becoming legal in this country.
So for the next president election a competition should be carried out among participants’ mission and vision to find someone who has political, moral and bravery to solve the long standing problems.
Board of censors is the greatest pest in Indonesia. It is the same to the censorship of that film about East Timor. All kinds of censorship, evcept cover for protection against bad guys, like the witness about crime is the most pest in Indonesia.
That’s true Niamh. I lived 2 years in Semarang with my girlfriend (at that time). Of course we didn’t live together. I eventually left the city because I have never seen such backward people in any other city in Indonesia. That’s the only city where I have been ejected manu military from my kost.
But Javanese are chicken, they insult you and laugh at you. They don’t really dare looking at you frontally. Except if they are more than 5 and you alone maybe (maybe).

Have to agree with you there too. You notice how they never say anything to you as you are approaching, always from behind. The real MUNAFIK are the countless occasions where they will smile at you pleasantly and greet you nicely, then, once your back is to them – but still within earshot – will let out with the insults!!
Mmm I can relate with you guys. My former girlfriend was also called “pecun” in Bandung.
With my fiancee I get less of that sh*t. Maybe because she is Chinese and they don’t care about Chinese that much 😉
I felt sick watching this movie because the movie was true story and I felt ashamed because I’m a moslem too. Moslem never teach us to kill people, perhaps I’m not that serious one in my religion but I know which good and bad. Is that good way to find heaven to kill others? I think they are dumb moslem and because of them too, moslem be such bad religion on the eyes of world. They deserve to die and live in hell. I still remember when Amrozy seeing a west boy buy many beers, he said “HARAM”. So if kill people is “HALAL”? WTF.
Novita, Islam doesnt teach to kill people. It’s the MOSLEMs who do. It’s not the religion, it’s the followers.
Some people who believe that they are moslems just because they fast, pray, read Quran, pay zakat, or even have gone to Mecca but who also believe that killing non-moslems are “halal” thing to do are actually those who worship the religion per se, not Allah the Almighty. Wouldn’t be seen as “kafir” on it’s own way? What would you call killing people who do no harm to you but still you try to justify your act just because they don’t embrace Islam as religion? We are no one to judge and pusnish, for Allah sake!! Get it, people!!!
It is still too soon for the Balinese to watch this.
From an Indonesian government point of view it will always be too soon for the Balinese to watch this.

The local Balinese government will do anything to avoid stepping on potential tourists’ toes, even hide the truth that since Bali became a mass tourism destination behaviour of some western tourists is downright scandalous and provocative.
When $$$ walk, bullsh*t talks.
Bad or not, the film is an eye-opener for all sides and should be shown all over the world.

Their attitude is an expression of racial frustration. The price for imagining not being able to compete. Maybe also a hangover from the past.
Very sad and annoying indeed.
I suppose the word Heaven in Indonesian is Neraka, Right!
Some people who believe that they are moslems just because they fast, pray, read Quran, pay zakat, or even have gone to Mecca but who also believe that killing non-moslems are “halal”.
Because killing is pro bono.

Why fear! Let all the Indonesians leftist, rightist, fanatic MF look at it. Let the suicide bombers, clerics see what actually hapenned. Let all Indonesians witness what was done to those innocent people enjoying at the resort island had to do with their religion. What was the actual cause that these muslim militant in trying to go on a personal vendetta went about killing more of their own people than their target victims. Had these victims cause any damage to their family, religion or to Indonesia. NO.
It is because some who were angry because the government had made certain retaliations to Indonesia so much so they have to get their hands on these innocent people old and young.
Like the case of bombing at the Australian Embassy. A friend told me that a mother and daughter were at the embassy trying to obtain a visa to go to Australia when the incident occurs. The mother died instantly and the daughter badly marred that the Australian government bear the cost of medical to bring her to Singapore for treatment but she died later in Singapore.
DO YOU F**K**G FANATICS MUSLIM MILITANT KNOW WHAT SADNESS IS????????
What if that were your kin, father or mother. THESE PEOPLE WHO CARRIED OUT THE SUICIDE BOMBING ARE F*CKING ISLAMIC COWARDS.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME DOES THE ISLAMIC RELIGION TEACHES A PERSON TO BE COWARD? THEY TEACH YOU TO BE MARTYR, HERO. BUT NOT IN THIS WAY. KILLING THE INNOCENCE WILL NOT MAKE YOU A HERO. YOU CAN DIE BUT NOT AS A MARTYR.
I SUGGEST LET THE SHOW GO ON. TELL THE WORLD WHAT HAPPENED. THEY ARE AFRAID NOT BECAUSE OF ANOTHER TENSION MIGHT ERUPT BUT FEAR THAT THEIR COWARDICE TRACED THEM BACK TO WHO THEY REALLY ARE.
I think the correct word for heaven is syurga. neraka means hell.
when God sent down his apostles to mankind (Mohamed included), they brought along with them a message that religion is an unecessary evil. To embrace a religion means to be subjected to evil deeds under the influence of monks/clerics/priests.
None of the apostle claim themslves as priest, nor do they ask for any monetary benefits.
Todays religion are headed by priests and collects taxes from their believers.
The messages from the apostles is that idol worship is a big sin.
Today’s religion performed idol worship in one form or another.
Message from the apostle was that to have faith in God and nothing else.
Today’s religious followers beleive in their priest and clerics rather that God.
Once you are under the influence of religion, you will be obliged to do evil deeds, and do things which defy common sense. The bali bombers is a good example. In their hearts and mind, they did a trully great favour for mankind by placing the bomb and killing drunk tourists. Even if you told them that what they did is a terrible thing, they will say otherwise.
similarly, if you told those with religion that they are performing idol worship, they will also not believe you. Some religion pray to statues, some to stones embedded in cubic structues and some pray to men.
God has indeed sealed the hearts, and blinded their eyes of those who embraced religion. they just cannot comprehend bad from good.
But Javanese are chicken, they insult you and laugh at you. They don’t really dare looking at you frontally.
Haha, as proud as I am to be 1/2 Javanese, I have to agree. I only go to Java on holiday, so I don’t have to care, so I just find it funny when Javanese will smile at you and then behind your back whisper and giggle. Even my own cousins bitch about each other, lol.
