Hi karenwu

I'm a single parent, too.  The trouble is that I'm male and only work occasionally in Indonesia, so my circumstances are different.  But one thing I've found is that if you have family around, it makes it a lot easier for child care arrangements.  Also, if you can find employment that has flexibility in working hours, and maybe lets you work from home.  As the children get older, it also becomes easier as they don't require as much full time care.

Good luck.  It's hard, and sometimes lonely, but it's worth it.

karenwu is cornered in a terrible marriage she would like to get away from.

Sometimes out of desperation, the women just walk out of the marriage to disappear forever leaving the kids in the hands of the father, which is not what karenwu has in mind.

But I am sure, if there are relatives/friends around, they will be willing to assist till a satisfying solution is reached.

But my personal assesment to your predicament based on observation is pretty grim. Most end up working in nightclubs in order to earn enough and still have time for their kids during the day. others will just end up being mistresses for wealthy men, ensuring their kids have decent education, or just look for a decent unmarried man who are just looking for someone to live happily with.

Those that try in businesses will normally have a small success rate as there is no capital and experience. While high paying job are only for the qualified with experience.

Another solution is to downgrade the lifestyle and survive on a smaller returns from working in lower paying jobs. But for the first few months, you will need some support from families and friends to help take care of the kids.

But if you have a personal touch in salemanship, why not try insurance. Join insurance agency. commission is good. In fact any sales job will get you a decent living without the paper qualification.

If you can't get new job, create one then.. if you're penyless.. well.. ask friends for joining your new business.

Its indonesia, friends and family is where you come if you have problems, it does still work that way these days.

Amazing no one has said 'go on the game' yet. Well, I won't be the first to do so Grin

Oh wait…. someone suggested selling insurance. Anyone who is not a complete naif knows that it takes what it takes to sell life insurance in this part of the world.

Seriously though… it's a tough business, being a single parent, I guess… I wish I had a sensible suggestion… but there just aren't that many. Worst comes to the worst, you could always get (say) Bethany on the job – they seem to have a lot of money and you don't… so it's not like they're going to brainwash you and fleece you…. and perhaps you might actually be able to get a job through networking there.

Well,Karen. At least you're not alone. Family around you could help when we're down. I'm a mother 32yrs with 2 kids, 5yrs & 6mnths baby, single parent but live with my family. If you have any experience of job/profession before or bachelor degree graduate, then it will help to find a job in jakarta. I hope you'll find with your children.. Take care
