Hello All,

We have just leased a house for 25 years in Sanur and we would like to build a second level.

What planning permission is needed in Bali?

What are the local laws I should read in relationship to building in Bali?

Go first to a notary you can trust and have him arrange an IMB (Izin Membangun Bangunan) before you start building. Don't believe those who pretend you can start building right away and get the IMB later. It takes time to get the permit and all they want is to get hold of your money as soon as possible.

The correct term could also be Izin Mendirikan Bangunan, but most of the time the abbreviation IMB is used.
