Reverting to my least controversial role as TV observer, last night (Sunday, Glorious 12th of July) my local movie consultant wanted to watch RCTI’s ‘Titanic’ re-run (second half, the first part being Saturday 11th) which had been advertised as starting at 10pm.( not in the press, though it might have been, but on RCTI itself, Sunday afternoon)
We duly arranged all necessary fixtures, e.g. hot cups of sweet black tea, fresh pack of my beloved Kansas Biru, etc. so we didn’t have to jump up and do things while Rose and Jack faced the briney horrors, then sat back and waited…and waited..and waited…till 10.30!
It’s a total pain in the rear end, the way almost all TV companies here do this to their viewers; nor was any apology offered at any stage by those responsible. Had some unexpected ‘breaking news’ broken, to justify such tardiness, I’d readily have forgiven RCTI, but nothing of that sort, nor have any other local stations had any similar excuses when they too have let us down.
Some inane soap preceded the movie, which had obviously been filmed a while ago, so they knew exactly how long it would run, and the interminable adverts are easily measured too, so WHY DO THEY DO THIS?

That's why I don't watch commercial TV stations, notorious for their staunch ignorance towards their viewers.
Who really wants to watch a movie spread over two days, chopped in parts of 5 minutes to let commercials floating by?
But Ross, this is not an exclusively Indonesian phenomenon. Here in Holland it's pretty much the same. Most commercial TV programs don't start on their scheduled times.

What on earth is wrong with Kansas? I first happed upon the brand when I was a very new boy in town, and they tasted like the Brit brand I'd smoked during my time in London, Lambert & Butler. but vastly cheaper!
I've smoked them ever since, not least in the living room – since my home is a bastion of anti-PC, non-smokers are required to sit out in the garden until they agree to light up.
PS since many humorous comments in the past have been seized upon by critics and wielded against me, I have to add that the words from 'non-smokers'…to…'up,' are a joke.
