How much of a part does Kejawen play in your religious life? And/or in the religious lives of your friends and neighbours?
I'm not Indonesian, so none.
And/or in the religious lives of your friends and neighbours?
None as far as I can tell, or maybe I'm just not knowledgeable enough about it or sensitive enough to notice. I'm talking about in Surabaya.
Sorry, not much use with your questions but have you read "A Shadow Falls" by Andrew Beatty, deals a lot with 'javanism' which I guess is same as kejawen. Beatty seems to suggest that even out in Banyuwangi it's on the back foot vis a vis orthodox Islam and doesn't have much of a future I guess. But Yogya things might be different.
