The second-hand smoke causes heart disease, lung cancer, nasal sinus cancer, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), asthma and middle ear infections in children and various other respiratory illnesses. Second-hand smoke exposure is also causally associated with stroke, low birth-weight, spontaneous abortion, negative effects on the development of cognition and behaviour, exacerbation of cystic fibrosis and cervical cancer

Please sign this petition, you're demanding your representatives to enact a law to ban smoking in all public places, including offices, public transportations, restaurants and implementing the existing law in Jakarta. And it will also ban stores from selling cigarettes to children under the age of 18 years; in order to protect the health and well being of those who work in such environments as well as the citizens of Indonesia.

We need to stop this horrible trend before it gets any worse. If we put a stop to it now, we will live longer, healthier lives. Our children and future generations will not have to suffer the consequences of smoking or secondhand smoke. Our smoking loved ones will be supported in quitting smoking and hopefully their health can be saved as well. It's a win-win for everyone, non smokers and smokers alike.

Let’s target to collect at least one million signatures and will be forwarded to your elected officials in Indonesia.
We *CAN* make a difference!

yeah and the difference we make will be as far as black on white, ink above papers, regulations above enforcement, the law is dead.

Indeed this is a start, but I must say that I would be pessimistic about any positive action resulting. I suspect that the death rate for Indonesian men from smoking must be one of the highest in the world. I hope that one day the Indonesian Government will recognise that the negative impacts of smoking far outweigh any possible financial or employment benefits and act on this petition.
