Spiritual activist denies sexual harassment accusation

Prominent spiritual activist Anand Krishna rebuffed on Saturday allegations that he had sexually harassed two of his female students.

His spokesperson Maya Safira Mochtar told a media conference at the Anand Krishna Centre in Denpasar, Bali that the accusation was groundless.

“Anand Krishna has never felt he is a teacher and named students. They can come and go any time,” Maya said as quoted by kompas.com.

She said Anand could not turn up for the media conference as he was busy with preparations for a workshop in Ubud, Gianyar.

A group of women filed a report with the National Commission on Violence against Women in Jakarta on Friday against Anand for alleged sexual harassment.

Maya said two of the women had long quit the meditation class at the Anand Ashram Foundation. One of the plaintiffs, Sumidah, once worked for Maya as a therapist at her inner health and beauty center but resigned last year after committing several violations.
