Yes, abangan, santri, priyayi, those are the forum ranks, based on how many posts you've had…….actually I wanted to use some sort of royal javanese terms for the forum ranks but I couldn't find what they might be, as I'm an ignorant fellow, maybe Balinese ones will do….

Why don't we use terms we all know: destitute, poor, lower-middle, middle, upper-middle, rich, filthy rich?

Weeelll it's not about wealth,  ok from your perspective it might be, but it's not supposed to be….

Hey ya patung, nice site you have!

I know some javanese terms

"kawulo" = common people

"prajurit" = solidiers

"priyayi" = royal descent

 "ratu" = king

in balinese they have the same terms, just that they have different names for that

from the lowest – Sudra, Satria, Wesia, Brahmana

second thought maybe you can have it like

cageman, caveman, primitive, human, modern human, half alien, alien , extra terrestrial  :D

FYInspiration only !
Cheers,

Thanks Denpasar Girl, at least they're useful suggestions, unlike Diego's….who I believe was making some social commentary there about caste or something on Bali….wasn't what I was looking for at all…..

Do I have to criticize the peasants for clinging to slametan traditions now that I'm a santri?

Furthermore, what's my position on those pseudo-heathens over at NU?

(joke!)

Oookay Patung, I'll try to be helpful than. Here we go, let's use balinese caste structure, from highest to lowest (no we don't have dalit — caste that even the great soul Mahatma Gandhi despised the way he despised the blacks ha ha ha — in bali, unlilke india).

First, Ida Bagus (brahmana).

Second, Cokorda (ksatria).

Eh wait, that's the theory, but in practice we can always pay the brahmanas to follow our will, and Cokorda of course (being ksatria) is in a better position to hold power (and consequently, money). So here we go again:

(1) Cokorda

(2) Ida Bagus

(3) Anak Agung (Anak Agungs always want to be considered equal as Cokorda, but nope, still failed, so to number 3 they go).

(4) Dewa

(5) Pasek (I'm not sure which is higher between Dewa and Pasek, I don't care actually).

(6) and those I's and Ni's.

Alright, but let me put on my firefighter suit first.

Ok, btw, I didn't really intend to start a mud slinging. Just posting a little thing I learned (each day), and this time is from: http://www.racialicious.com/20…..st-for-me/ — I like the writer's view on the matter.

@Diego, Odinius

You may take that as a compliment. Just like people who receive an honorary degree such as Doctor Honoris Causa, while they didn’t go through the formal education necessary to get the title of doctor….ok, santri diego? Laugh

Ok Diego, fair enough, mud slinging not good, it's a valid point she makes, hard to judge people by the standards of today, just about everyone in the past will fail on some score…..depends on what set of standards you accept today of course.
