This is an extremely disturbing trend. As Indonesia drifts further and further away from Panca Sila it becomes more and more like the middle east: an intolerant, bigoted area with lots of different ethinic groups and religions all wanting to oppress each other. Indonesians, WAKE UP! Look hard at the middle east. Do you really want to be like that?

There is no such thing as a single Islamic movement. Shia and Sunnis kill eachother every day. Arabic interpretations are even more different. There are other Muslim traditions in Asia than in the middle east.

    MAGY:
“Shia and Sunnis kill eachother every day” in Iraq, after saddam’s downfall.
“Catholics and Christians kill each other everyday” in northern ireland not too long ago. one must adress things on it’s proper context, of time and location.

I just mean it is a myth there is a united Islamic movement just as it is obvious there are so many different interpretations in Christianity. So Hassan you are absolutly right. Since there are so many different ways to belive, Sunnis, Shia, Arabs, Asia Muslims, chatolics, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Chiniees, and 100 more variations within each of these cathegories, it is a tragedy what is happening to RI. I will not accept that intolerance is what the people of RI really wants. I still firmly belive that fundamentalism is seen very impopular by most Indonesians.

Faith does not define a human being – his/her actions do. In Indonesia today it is very unusual with violence because of faith. So even though polls say Indonesians dislike other religions – they certainly act differently.

RI is now more and more integrated in the world eonomy and there is no way back to fundamentalism.
