Persecution of Christians

December 23rd, 2005, in News, by Patung

Religious persecution in Indonesia.

According to Open Doors Indonesia ranks in the bottom three for the year 2005 in persecution of Christians. Keeping company with North Korea and Eritrea in the bigot stakes may surprise many Indonesians and any surprise that may come is sorely needed.

While we cannot vouch for the veracity of the claim of Open Mind it nevertheless demands Indonesians, above all Muslims in positions of power, take stock of where they would like their country to go.

Muslims, while representing about 80% of the population in Indonesia, have an irrational fear of Christianity, and are notoriously ignorant and intolerant of it. How such a large majority can feel so insecure and defensive is an interesting question. One wonders when Indonesians will face up to it.
