Nice article, never thought that the Rupiahs on my pocket could tell me the next destination for my vacation.

A very original take on travel destinations. I like it. I was always intrigued with that Rp. 1000,- note of Nias. Never been there.

Being from Manadonese descent my choice, of course, would be Bunaken….

Patung, perhaps a small correction, Bedugul is in Danau Bratan area, not Danau Batur. The locals call Bratan lake “Bedugul” and “Batur” lake Kintamani.
By the way, can you add also the new “1000Rp” with Pulau Tidore ?

Mas I’m not the travel expert here, you should be talking to the author Righteous Dude, ….where is Kenjeran Beach on these notes?

    Hi Mas Martin,

Thanks for your correction, my mistake.

Here is the new Rp1000 note with Pulau Maitara and Tidore as requested:

I didn’t include it because it is relatively far (North Maluku) and difficult to get there.

Well, thanks Dude, actually the scenery around Ternate and Tidore is well worth the trip there, sunset view from southern tip of Ternate towards Tidore and Maitara is particularly ‘breathtaking‘.

I made the effort and visited twice, climbed both Ternate / Tidore volcanoes (Gamalama and Kiematubu) with even more stunning scenery with distant Halmahera and other islands. (Halmahera is interesting, too, at least for tough travellers).

Ternate receives daily flights from Jakarta, Makassar and Manado, and is probably easier to get to from Java than, say, Nias (or Alor, old 5000 Rp).

Talking of banknotes, I’m kind of fed up with carrying a suitcase full of money when I go shopping or pay my rent. When are they finally going to emit a 1000000 (one million) Rp note? For my part it may even show Sumanto (Achmad’s alter-ego) on one side and the Lapindo mud flow on the other.

I would like to acknowledge this is really an interesting article. Do you mind if I put this knowledge into our university’s Indonesian Student Association’s magazine’s article? (buletinbejana.wordpress.com). Thank you very much,

    Irvan Putra.

I don’t think the Moluccans will be happy with that comment. =)
