   I hope the film gets banned, those bedroom scenes were ‘off the record’ and aren’t supposed to be in the movie.

   Aha, a bit of fun on the side and those lousy producers took advantage. Shameless bastards.

   Well, as cinetron critic of IM, certainly I felt it my duty to go along to Bioskop Slipi a week or two ago and inspect Ms. Perssik’s performance. Not at all disappointing.

   There were glimpses of forbidden territory but nothing that seemed to stun my 90% Indonesian fellow-viewers. The local taste for earthy humour – and horror – is nothing new, as old comedy show re-runs on tv indicate.

   We usually go to see pocong and kuntilanak movies and while some are daft, others are quite good, and I’d put Paku Kuntilanak in the latter category.

   I plan to see Merah Putih, out next week, a celebration of the Independence War, but my range of movies depends on my ‘resident bahasa consultant,’ as I don’t like going by myself and she won’t let me take anyone else!

   I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a film poster somewhere in Internet, uncannily similar to Paku Kuntilanak (minus the ‘paku’). It’s either True Blood or Jennifer’s Body. Of course, it’s not a problem at all.

    It appears Ross is the only person commenting who has actually seen it (MUI are the ultimate armchair experts, it seems).

    Anyway, here are my two cents on the controversy and quality of the first movie:

    Heather Storm does a lot more than Dewi Perssik in the (bathroom and) bedroom in this movie, not that anyone has seemed to notice.

    The dumb thing is that DP not only cavorts with Keith Foo but with the very unsexy Pak Joko (last seen in a TV advertisement for Sanyo water pumps).

    Sorry to disagree with you, Ross, but I would generally put “Paku Kuntilanak” in the daft category. There are far too many parts of the film that are too stupid or don’t add up, and it’s not scary, sexy or funny enough for us to not care about it.

    Having said that, if you get it on DVD (an extra Rp10 000 than the VCD), the English subtitles are surprisingly good. I think – with the low budget B-grade movie budget – it actually plays better on TV.
