You are really quite intractable. Mike O. and I have tried to explain this to you three times, but you fail to understand. Please go back and read again what has been put to you.

I can conclude that your own religious faith is so weak, that you need to think of all non-believers as promoters of incest. In fact, there are many studies that suggest that incest is actually more common in fundamentalist religious families, of all persuasions.

In other word Taboo is non-logical thing

Taboo noun (pl. taboos or tabus) a social or religious custom placing prohibition or restriction on a particular thing or person. …nothing about it being illogical or irrational. In fact , in many cases taboos are a highly rational and logical prohibition. In this case (incest) it’s also highly rational (recessive genes, inbreeding, Prince Charles ears) and thus a moral prohibition against it would arise quite naturally in an evolved morality (and biology as TTT pointed out with his pheremones)

Of course gun and stuff is important for survival but the most important thing is the aboriginal has no strong religius doctrine like us to counter the religius doctrine brought up by the invader

Coz’ Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam originated in Java didn’t they? In fact Aborigines have a whole raft of traditional beliefs.

Exactly TTT. The logical explanation is that the taboo remains deep within our mental and physical biology having evolved that way. This being the case only a small amount of deviants (such as yourself perhaps Cukie) are going to be interested in committing incest, condoms or no condoms. In the same vein (no pun intended), we also have a strong urge to procreate. The fact that I use condoms and don’t procreate doesn’t stop me getting the horn and shagging birds. Thankyou.

Actually TTT the science of pheromones is very interesting. I saw a programme on TV in which random males smelled T shirts that had been worn by random females. The males most preferred the scent of T shirts worn by women who were genetically the least similar to them. So our sexual preferences have evolved, via pheromones, to stir the gene pool.

Hi guys,

Figured I’d just drop in to explain what everyone is saying real quick…before this goes on for 3 more days…..

Mas Cukurungan is saying that the Taboo against incest is the reason that people find it gross. That without the social and religious taboos people would find nothing disgusting about having sex with their mother. Any instinctive reaction of it being disgusting, is a result of the taboo.

Mas Burung Koel is saying that the taboo developed from the fact that it was naturally gross to us. He uses the fact that pheromones play an important role in our sexual attractions.

You are both half right.

The factors that made something like incest a gross are both natural reason, social reasons, psychological reasons.
The psychological reasons are the most significant.

Also, Taboo is the wrong word.
Things like incest and pedophilia (and many of the other philias) are psychological disorders. It is not a matter of taboo.

Think for a second…… Would YOU, if there were no social/cultural/religious ramifications, want to have sex with your mom?

I know I wouldnt! It has nothing to do with taboo, society, or religion….it has to do with the way our minds wire different relationships. And while social influence plays a role in how we develope these, it is not a sole factor.

In closing, people who are not having sex with their parents and little children…do not avoid it out of fear of taboos….they avoid it for the same reason I avoid playing with dog feces….. It is disgusting, and I dont have a psychological disorder that overrides that disgust.

You seem to suffer from one-dimensionalism. With you it’s either this or that. Us or them. As if there could be no other reasons for taboos to be respected like social structures, even esthetics, all qualities that evolution has proved to be beneficial for the human condition.

et, things like social structures, esthetic perception, popularity, and any other qualities defined without an absolute, unchangeable set of values, are changing with time, so will anything defined based on that. Look at the western world. Compared to the 17th century, how many social taboos are gone now? what makes you think that the incest taboo is special?

In much of the world today, it is considered incest for 1st cousins to marry. I know that in the west and east asia, it is very looked down upon.
However, In the middle east and south asia, intermarriage between 1st cousins is very common, even among the wealthy and educated.

using absolutes, should the taboo over 1st cousin incest be lifted or expanded?
