The Health Minister was the 2nd choice too.

Has anybody heard why the 1st choice (I’ve forgotten her name) didn’t get it? At first, people said she flunked the medical, but the hospital said no. Then there was a rumour that the tobacco industry baulked and placed pressure on SBY to choose another.

Nila Djuwita Anfasah Moeloek was the 1st candidate for Health Minister. reported that she failed in fit and proper test. Complete news on her failure can be read here.
Endang was graduated from Harvard University, perhaps that is also the reason for SBY to choose her instead of Nila.

Somehow I think the cabinet is too big and it looks ineffective & chaotic.

I would combine Youth issue under Education or Manpower. While Womens’ Empowerment & Child Protection would be ideally under Justice & Human Rights since all related problem in regards to women & children are strongly related to bias gender regulation & law plus weak law enforcement. I have never understood what Public Works ministry does *anyone can please tell me???* I think Disadvantaged Regions, Public Housing, Transmigration issue could be under National Development Planning ..aaargghh it’s so chaotic..what are the aims of this cabinet?? From its composition, it looks like this cabinet will cost overlapping assignment!

Public Works = Perkerjaan Umum = PU

Obviously you’ve never tried to navigate the Indonesian Government’s arcane tendering processes :-)

    Here’s their website.

Too bad Hassan Wirayuda isn’t in anymore. I once saw an interview with him on BBC’s Hard Talk. He answered a question like this:

“You cannot compare apples with durians”

    Priceless.

I think it was Cambodia – Helmy Faishal Zaini and Suharso Manoarfa, in 2005, appears the police set them up in the hotel, offered them girls, they were underage, then busted them in their rooms, revenue raising thing sounds like. They went there for an ASEAN Parlementary Organization meeting, although one report I saw had Helmy claiming he has never set foot in Cambodia and you can check his passport if you like….

I have found everyone’s comments very interesting and enlighting. I am a student in the US and working on a research paper. Can someone tell me the best internet place to locate information for my paper. I am researching “Women Leaders of Indonesia”.

    Thanks

A very good example of how SBY translate “Indonesia Bersatu” (Indonesia unite) concept; read: give something to everyone, talk about the quality (both something’s and everyone’s) later.

    @ Valorie: Google (lol :) )
If you want to write a comprehensive paper, I think you better start with women leaders before Indonesia’s independence. Kartini, although she wasn’t a leader is definitely one name you should start. Tjoet Njak Dien / Cut Nyak Din (spell check), is also worth to tell.
After the independence, there are Megawati Sukarno Putri, Sri Mulyani, and Miranda Gultom (I wonder how she can survive 5 presidency)
