Just reading about the scenario in a tabloid…
Eros Jarot said that the story is only about love affair between Lastri and Ronggo, who (coincidentally) are activists of CGMI (Central Gerakan Mahasiswa Indonesia) under bow of PKI (Partai Komunis Indonesia). They get separated and cannot be married, because they are chased out by TNI (Tentara Nasional Indonesia). One day Lastri heard that Ronggo has been caught and killed by TNI, and then she gets married with a TNI officer for her safety.
Well… yes, this story can be happened to anyone. But Eros ought to think twice before he run his movie… as PKI is still a bahaya laten for our country, Negara Pancasila, and I think it will be a bahaya laten forever…
About PKI…
My family have bad experience with PKI…
My (almarhum) grandfather, he was an ulama, a Masyumi member in Banjarmasin, he ever almost be killed by his neighbour, a PKI member.. but Alhamdulillah, he was safe.
My father and his friends formed GASBIINDO (Gabungan Serikat Buruh Islam Indonesia), and my father was a secretary for the Dewan Kepengurusan Pusat of GASBIINDO in about 1962-1964. This Labor Organization was formed to against SOBSI (Sentral Organisasi Buruh Seluruh Indonesia), a Labor Organization under PKI.
There are so many “bloody” stories I heard about PKI from my grandfather, my father, my mother, my aunts and uncles. They are the history witnesses. They lived in PKI era and against them directly. Ofcourse I believe in them more than any PKI apologizer’s books…
I guess drinkable water, proper sewage systems, hot showers, social security, universal health care and human rights for all are not your kind of democracy. But those things are the basis of democracy. With the cornerstone being freedom of speech.
The cornerstone is slavery and not Democracy
You can enjoy those facilities is not because democracy or universal human right but because hundred years of continuing shameless the human right abuse against million aboriginal people who had been enslaved to build most basic facilities and infrastructure in Australia
Well said, Sheikh Cuk, but you need to elaborate more. Bules need to be told in very detailed and simplest term. Here, I reiterate what Sheikh Cuk said:
Mas Aluang,
Your final touch is not bad but PLATO will never go into detail
I should say that, we should see the movie first before make a comment
pipiko….
the problem is : Eros had stopped to make this movie….
So NOONE will see this movie in every single cinema, because it’s unfinished…
as I said, actually nothing special with the scenario, it’s only about love between to university students… BUT they coincidentally were CGMI members.
CGMI (Central Gerakan Mahasiswa Indonesia) was under PKI.

*note : bahaya laten = eternally danger/enemy
Perspective:
There should be (at least) two sides for a story.
Compassion:
People can be judged for their individual acts and not over their adherence to a prejudiced categorization.
Relativity:
Truth is indeed a subjective matter; no one holds the absolute and irrefutable truth consequently one must be humble enough to learn from and about the other.
Universality:
Concepts like freedom of expression, Human Rights, democracy, the right to a fair trial and a proper defence are universal, so once you start making exceptions you have to expect that one day you might the exception.
Conclusion:
The communists might have got it wrong; they may have been a threat or might not have been worse than Suharto, but what happened in 1965-66 was an ugly act of mass murder, a full fledged genocide, it takes courage to acknowledge that fact and even much more than courage to remedy it.
Are you kidding yourself?
If you ask someone (with the right mind), which countries they would prefer to live I bet any money that most of them will choose to live in Western Countries.
There are still people illegally tried to cross the ocean in small boats to try their luck living in the US, Australia and Europe
So true, I have not heard of one instance of a boat load of Australian refugees heading for Indonesia of for any where else in Asia for that matter
Tell you what, FMF, I can’t blame you for trusting your grandpa than PKI apologizers.
But the fact is, millions of people were killed, slaughtered, tortured, prisoned, robbed because they were labeled communist or blamed for being involved in G30S which was never be proven in a partial court of law. It was all a bogus intelligence & military propaganda to ease their path to dominating Indonesian politic. It is the way the army under Soeharto to get rid of their biggest competitor in politic: PKI and its affiliates.
I have interviewed many killers & perpetrators, those who were involved in killing–literally do the kiling with their own hands, slaughtering human being like a goat–the so called communist, PKI member, Gerwani, PR, Lekra, BTI, SOBSI members and even their own neighbors who doesn’t know anything, nor ideological, but got caught simply because his neighbor pointed finger on him.
Most of them created story exactly like your grandfather’s. That PKI is dangerous, that I was almost be killed by them, if I didn’t kill them first etc etc. Almost every story they made up can’t be confirmed by all other history witnesses I also interviewed.
The story was made up to cover up their guilty feeling or their sin. Some made up a story about Jihad fighting communist kafirs in the name of God with their sword etc. But it’s all a lie, I can tell you.
I know it is difficult to accept a contradictory information from a perfect stranger like me. But I can tell you, if you want to learn about what really happened in 65 and 66 and some killings went on to 68, you can find it in the internet. There’re many matterials about this. Some make sense, some don’t. I think you gonna find which one is which one.
It will be hard for you to believe something that is totally different than what you already comfortably believe in. It would be like to change your religion, even worse, to a religion that you hated at first.
But, take your time. Probably you should interview your grandpa whether he joined the Death Squad who hunted down, chase, caught, or even execute those alleged communists. You can also try to get other confirmation from other source around your grandpa.
I really do hope your grandpa wasn’t involved in the killing. And I too hope that you learn the truth about G30S, the generals killing, the communists killing, human rights abused, and how not to let that happened again. It’s been too long our nation lives in hypocrisy.
I mean “impartial” not “partial” court of law.
We’ve been also too long letting impunity happen in Indonesia.
If can’t see clearly the past in our history,if we can’t be hones with our history, if we tell lies to our children about our history, friends, Indonesian, we have no clear future.
