It’s a sad day for Indonesian and world literature to see such a brilliant writer pass on. I was fortunate enough to read Pak Toer’s work when I first arrived in Indonesia, and it had an enormous effect on how I viewed the culture, as well as whetting my appetite for more knowledge about this country and its people.

    Hi Arie,

Maybe you mean The Mute’s Soliloquy? You can read the first chapter at
    http://www.nytimes.com/books/first/p/pramoedya-soliloquy.html
but you have to create an account first but it’s free.

    Hi,
Before his death, Pram had gladly given me his permission letter for translating his great saga, ‘Buru Quartel’ in the Indian language of Malayalam. I’m an Indian regional writer & literary translator.
The fact is that I needed a proper Agreement that should be signed by his legal heir, which I found very difficult to obtain.
    Could anybody help me,
    S.A.Qudsi
