Isn’t part of the problem that with PLN in essence having a monopoly over the production of electricty in Indonesia and rampant corruption and increasing inefficiencies in the production of electricity the real reason behind the blackouts.
Simply, isn’t the case one of PLN (and the government) underestimating future power / electricty demands and now being caught with its strides around its ankles?
The call to reduce energy use is a good one and people from all walks need to consider how to reduce their use. However, these calls are at best temporary until new power plants come on line in late 2009. These power stations should pick up enough of the slack that balckouts should not be as frequent as they are now.
Bad public policy with regards to generating sufficient electricity to power the masses of Jakarta is partly to blame rather than solely the uncaring usage of electricity by the masses.
