LampungAdinda Bakrie marries Seng-Hoo Ong in lavish style in a multi-billion rupiah affair.

The niece of Coordinating Social Affairs minister Aburizal Bakrie, and daughter of former PT Lapindo Brantas owner Indra Usmansyah Bakrie and restauranteur Gaby Djorgie, Adinda Bakrie married Seng-Hoo Ong on July 25th, her new husband himself belonging to a wealthy business family, in Singapore.

Wearing traditional clothes in the Lampung style the couple later presided over a lavish reception held at the Grand Ballroom of the Hotel Mulia in Jakarta, attended by much of the Jakarta political and economic elite, including, among others:

  • Jusuf Kalla, vice president
  • Agung Laksono, parliament co-chairman
  • AM Fatwa, parliament co-chairman
  • Anwar Nasution, head of Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan
  • Agus Martowardoyo, Bank Mandiri director
  • Hatta Rajasa, State Secretary
  • Chairul Tanjung, businessman
  • Jero Wacik, Tourism minister
  • Surya Dharma Ali, Koperasi minister
  • Bachtiar Chamsyah, Social Affairs minister
  • Ali Alatas, ex-Foreign minister

While some of the performers who entertained the crowd included Vina Panduwinata, Christopher Abimanyu, Memes, and Mike from Indonesian Idol, assisted by the Twilight Orchestra.

The wedding and reception is estimated to have cost about 20 billion rupiah, or over 2 million dollars, with a fair share of this amount likely going to the hired wedding planner from Hollywood, Preston Bailey, who has previously been contracted by Donald Trump, for one or other of Trump's weddings. [1]

Win Hendarso, the regent of Sidoarjo - the location of the never-ending Lapindo Brantas mudflow disaster - did not attend, perhaps because he wasn't invited, but sent a bouquet of flowers anyway. [2]

In corporate terms, this would be a cross border merger, overriding unessential stuff like nationalism, race, religion etc. May there be more such events in the future.

Of course this is a marriage of political and economic motivation.

Why else would any attractive woman settle for such hideous features, lady-hands, sharing cosmetic products and a lifetime of premature ejaculation and prepubescent genitalia.

As per Seng Hoo- why did his family flee to Singapore after making money in Indonesia?
Parasitic exploitation of the pribumi, illegality and immorality obviously did not figure high in Bakrie’s mind.

So, which is the better epithet: Gold digger or traitor?

God willing, their syukurin (come-uppance/just desserts) will be very nasty indeed.

Modesty After “Pak Suharto” had passed away, one could read in The Jakarta Post many “letters to the editor” from Chinese Indonesians (including peranakans), paying respect to him but as well, looking into the future, expressing hope for better chances for them in Indonesian society. I read an interview with former coördinating minister of economics and finance mr. Kwik Kian Gie, who made an appeal to his fellow ‘chinese people’ to show quite a bit more modesty regarding their wealth and success. (to start when shopping in the numerous mall’s in Indonesia’s big cities). Unfortunately many people always want to show off. According to mr. Kwik it does not prove good manners and upbringing when you exhibit your social and financial status on the street or where ever.
This young man Seng-Hoo Ong should realise that being able to spend 20 billion rupia for his wedding was not his own achievement. His grandparents must have worked very hard for bringing all those mony in when they once started their business. Modesty and good breeding does not come from how much mony you have. Human civilised behaviour comes from the inside!

So many comments assuming various motives for Seng and Adinda getting married. Has anyone thought that maybe they got married because they love each other? Additionally, they are their own people – do not judge them by actions taken by their elders. While I do not/am not in a position to condone anything done by anyone in the past, why can’t we just leave them alone? Seng is a great person who I had the pleasure of going to school and growing up with in Jakarta, and I’m sure Adinda is a lovely lady. Congratulations to them both on their marriage and may they be blessed with many years together and many children.

True, but then again since when was sensitivity to the plight of other’s a virtue to these fat-cats? Just think Lapindo.

It’s disgusting to read this. So many people have loss their homes and suffered miserably in the Lapindo Mudflow incident and constrast with this grotesque flauting of money just to show off. It’s sickening to watch. How about donating back some of this millions you thrown away to help the people in Lapindo that you have made homeless?

    Peranakan is not Indonesian word.
It is Malay- a term of self-aggrandizement coined by Chinese for Chinese to make themselves aristocrats.
But alas- their blood was Hokkien.

Seng Hoo Ong is not a name. It just sounds too silly.
    Lee Kwa Yew= name
    Goh Chok Tong= name

    Seng Hoo Ong= silly.
