Globalization is bringing on a dark age for Bali's Hindus.
I Made Titib, a former senior official at the Department of Religion, said at a seminar in Bali on 8th December that globalization threatened great harm for Balinese Hindus.
He said the entrance of global culture into Bali would likely cause people to become disoriented, hedonistic, materialistic, and secular, and would lead to social conflicts.
Western culture was most to blame, he said, and was in opposition to eastern culture, which was more spiritual.
In theological terms, he said currently it was like the age of Kali Yuga, a kind of Dark Age, which Hindus traditionally see as one of the four stages of development that the world goes through.
....even pre-teenage girls will get pregnant. The primary cause will be the social acceptance of sexual intercourse as being the central requirement of life.
It is believed that sin will increase exponentially, whilst virtue will fade and cease to flourish. People will take vows only to break them soon.
...men will have lustful thoughts and so will women
There will be no respect for animals, and also meat eating will start.
People will become addicted to intoxicating drinks.

He said strong and wise leadership was needed, in order that the best of western culture was taken advantage of, while the worst was kept away. India was a good example to follow, because they had learnt from western technological advances, while keeping to their unique culture, he said. tempo
