Wow, what an embarrassment. This really exposes how illiterate and ignorant these “representatives of the people” are in terms of their understanding of democracy and the Helsinki MoU.

This is democracy country, everbody can be independent candidates without representing any political parties.

Doesn’t this way of thinking sounded like the New Order (ORBA) way of thinking?

First out of the blocks was Muhaimin Iskandar, the deputy chairman of the parliament in Jakarta, DPR, and who is from the PKB, who said that political aspirations must be channeled through parties.

Get a grip of reality Mr. Iskandar!

I think all the moderate-Moslems need to voice their opinion against this old hack.

The problem is that as the moderate-Moslems keep quiet then all the non-Moslems will think that this old hack actually represents all Moslems.

You see, it is my current opinion, that many Indonesian (most of the politicians particularly) don’t understand the meaning of democracy. Or they don’t want it?

In a real democracy: there would arise a scream of disgust surely immediately from the opposition and also from his side too. And as the next the other will distance themselves from him and he can be excluded from his party.

But I think most (maybe not all) of those folks in the government (and maybe also some political and religious groups – parties ) have the same viewpoint.

Good luck, Indonesia. Wish you a real change.

Their only viewpoint is, “how much money can I line my and my families pockets with and what can I do to protect my power and position, to continue lining my pockets for as long as possible?”

Or for as long as I stay in my office, which probably not long, so you can see the rampant corruption that is happening at the moment, they consider that the opportunity is very limited, thus they are trying to get their hands on as much dirty money they can get.

We need more independent name for full open democratic, we need fresh figure with clean, transparent & have real program to bring out our nation from longer crisis. But independent also means proportional, Islam is greater & greatest in Indonesia so, Islamic development & Islamic welfare should be set up as priority.

The problem is, that there are many Moslems in Indonesia (not the majority, but many) thinking like you do.
And the problem is, that every group in Indonesia think, their needs are the most important and forget to support the country to better the situation.

My idea just simple, to be islamic automatically be a nationalist because islam spirit will keep our country be in peace with tolerance & clean democracy.

No need anymore to hide islamic identity to show up our nationality. Islamic movement represent by masjumi never try to replace the pancasila, but communism like PKI do twice ‘makar’ in 48 & 65 againts pancasila.

Strengthen islamic community will make this country powerful, this is the simple way because islamic community is the biggest part in our country.

Be independent candidate & give the proportional attention to islamic community, why not?

How can one represent another if one cannot represent ones self?
Political, moral and ethical integrity can only be delivered by independent candidates becomeing independent representatives. The very notion of political parties is corrupt. Their only purpose is to buy votes with bribes. Politicians will not change themselves.

Wow, you actually still believe this. Obviously you still think that there is such thing as Supersemar, and Suharto was actually acting in behalf of Indonesia by killing anybody that is associated with PKI or just have similar names.

Yeah, after the other faiths or sects are thrown out of Indonesia? Including the Syiahs/Ahmadiyah etc? And then what kind of nationalism: Indonesian or Arabian?

Hmmm …? Where do you live? Or when? Maybe you should beam yourself into the current Indonesia?

Btw: allow me a question: are you Indonesian? If not how can you teach Indonesian about nationalism? If yes, then where is your own nationalism? I just wonder that you use Arabic name. Is that also a sign of Indonesian nationalism?

And to be Islamic is very, very, very hard.
And only truthful Islamic people and truthful Non-Islamic people could bring this country in peace with tolerance & clean.

The islamic community has always been the biggest part in Indonesia. Why isn’t Indonesia a powerful country now? You seem to expect miracles when Indonesia turns into an Islamic state. Because that is what you want, you are not really interested in the Pancasilla.
